My honest review of K. J. Somaiya Institute of Technology
Placements: I am a partial COVID batch student. I joined the college in 2019 and graduated in 2023. I was unable to crack any job during college placement season. There were good companies like Jio, TCS, etc., who came. EXTC students had a tough time cracking jobs. The highest package offered to an EXTC student was 8 LPA. Overall, the highest package was 15 LPA to a Comps department student.
Infrastructure: I was a day scholar. So I didn't experience the hostel. It had actually begun its construction when I joined in 2019. And it got completed just a month before my last final exams. Nevertheless, it's very well furnished with all the facilities available. Talking about the campus facilities, WiFi is available for all with a distinctive ID allocated to every student. The library is well equipped with sufficient books on all the subjects, and there is enough sitting space also. Classrooms are also well lit and airy. Just the older benches are very inconvenient.
Faculty: The teachers were indeed supportive and well aware of the changing landscape of education. There used to be regular feedback online forms to be filled by students to track the performance of the professors. Of course, to a certain extent, the syllabus did feel backward, but the efforts to update it were commendable. The exams used to be tough. Also, KT exams are conducted as soon as possible to prevent any backlogs.
Other: I actually chose engineering out of desperation rather than a personal choice. I was allocated K C College in Thane initially. But I opted out of that college and took admission here during the vacancy round. Nevertheless, I found the best of campus life here. The events, committees, crowd, and overall vibe of the college were very pleasing. I also served as the Jt PRO of the IEEE committee before graduation. Connectivity-wise, it is connected to Chunabhatti station on the Harbour line in Mumbai. And it also has good roadway connectivity. I wish the college would improve its curriculum a little bit more to be abreast of the changing landscape of education.

Satisfactory facilities are available at the college.
Placements: Our college has a special department which conducts placement drives for the students. Every year 55% of students get placements at our college. Average package offered for the IT course was between 3-6 LPA. Top companies in our course were from the IT field.
Infrastructure: College has good infrastructure. Facilities were offered to students and were of good quality. Necessary facilities like Wi-Fi, computer labs, classrooms, library, etc., were available along with canteen, hostel, sports ground, etc. All the facilities were equally given to all the students.
Faculty: Yes, the faculty of this college were qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality for our course was good at this college. Teachers were helping students in all the possible situations. Semester exams were of moderate difficulty level. Minimum pass percentage of the course was 36%.

Review of KJ Somaiya Institute of technology.
Placements: Most of the students opted for higher studies, but only 30% of the students who sat for placements got placed. The highest package offered in my course was Rs 13.80 lakhs, the lowest was Rs 2.5 lakhs, and the average was Rs 4 lakhs. The top recruiters were IDFC, Seclore, and nVent. Approximately 30% of the students got internships, and the companies were Birla Finance, Mumbai Metro, Lawyantra, and Corizo.
Infrastructure: The facilities are good compared to other colleges with the same fees. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The classrooms and library are spacious, and the labs are equipped with good working PCs. You also have digital access to library books. They provide access to IEEE papers online, which is a great step to enable learning from various sources. The labs also have air conditioners that are always on when the labs are scheduled. The quality of food at the mess is good but not as tasty as per the price. The medical, sports, and games facilities are good but not up to the mark.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and knowledgeable but not qualified in the specific fields of AI and DS, as they hold degrees in different areas. The quality of teaching is that most teachers read PowerPoint presentations, except for 2-3 teachers, and think that is teaching, which is not the correct way. The course curriculum is relevant but not at par with current industry standards. The course is sufficient for learning, but to become industry-ready, students need to put in extra effort. The semester exams are of medium-level difficulty, and the pass percentage is 91%.
Other: I chose this course because the future lies in artificial intelligence and data science, but I forgot that my batch was the second batch in our college. The faculties here are trained in electronics and hold PhDs in other subjects rather than math, statistics, or computer science, which form the base of AI and DS. I wish the teachers here focused more on practical learning rather than theoretical learning, as it would help students pursue more practical knowledge. The best thing is that the faculties are very supportive in terms of guiding students on projects and encouraging them to think outside the box. The events and clubs here are plentiful and very supportive, and the teachers also support them. There is no need for attendance if you are an active member of the clubs.

Our college provides good facilities and placements.
Placements: Placements are average in our college. Almost 60% of students got placed in our college. The remaining students opted for higher studies or started a startup. The highest salary package offered is 14.3 LPA. The average salary package offered is 5.5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Jio, TCS, Jaro, KMK, LTI, Infosys, etc.
Infrastructure: The hostel is still under construction. After construction, the building will be well-structured and provides many facilities. Wi-Fi facility is average. The library is useful for students.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified. The teaching of some teachers is not up to the mark. The course curriculum is well-structured and updated according to the latest market needs. It is based on research and projects and helps to make students industry-ready.

Highly satisfied with the college, great placements cell in 2021.
Placements: 1. Around 80% students got placed from our campus. 2. The highest salary package was 6LPA and the lowest was 3LPA 3. Top recruiting companies were JP Morgan, Accenture & EY 4. 95% students got internship from our course in companies like Paytm 5. Engineering Trainee, Android Developer roles were offered.
Infrastructure: 1. We have Wi-Fi, A/C, IT labs and library with more than 5000+ books. 2. Food quality is good in canteen and mess and we have athletic and football ground where we can play and chill during our break times. One can also apply for Somaiya sports academy.
Faculty: 1. The teachers are very helpful and guided us on how to grow yourself in college. 2. The course curriculum is very relevant to current roles in industry. 3. Semester exams are something very important in engineering colleges and I find little difficult. The passing percentage was getting above 5 CGPA in every subject.

KJSIT - A decent college in Mumbai.
Placements: The students who are eligible are all mostly placed. The placement is about 60–80%. The highest package offered on-campus is 14–15 LPA by IDFC first. The average placement is about 4-6 LPA. The consistent hiring companies are IDFC, Seclore, Accenture, etc. Usually, internship opportunities are not available on-campus but interested parties can find off-campus opportunities. The roles offered are analyst, SDE, etc.
Infrastructure: The college is well-equipped with the necessary facilities. The campus has free Wi-Fi available. Classrooms are well ventilated and have projectors. Labs are air-conditioned with the latest generation PC. The library has all kinds of books available that provide in-depth knowledge of core fundamental subjects and help prepare for competitive exams. The hostel has good facilities. The food available in the canteen is average. The college has indoor games like table tennis and carrom. The college has a turf as well as a football field.
Faculty: The teachers are very well qualified. The teaching is more focused on syllabus completion but if there are doubts, the professors are approachable and not very arrogant. Though the college is autonomous, it follows a course curriculum more or less similar to that of Mumbai University. So I think to be industry-ready, you have to put in some extra effort on your side to upgrade your skills. The semester exams are not very difficult or easy; they are moderate. Almost 95–100% is the passing rate.
