For multidisciplinary discussion of cases of complex sleep disorders, a sleep board has also been established. By raising awareness, the medical profession and society at large can start to address this illness and lessen its harmful aftereffects. The most common type is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It is a medical illness that is both underrecognized and underdiagnosed and has numerous detrimental effects on both the health of the patients and society at large. In the US, it affects 17% of women and 34% of males, and the prevalence is comparable in other nations.

The causes of OSA include an upper airway that is small, congested, or collapsible, a low threshold for alertness to airway narrowing when sleeping, and unstable breathing control. Snoring, feeling like you're choking when you wake up from sleep, being excessively sleepy during the day, morning headaches, fitful sleep, lethargy, and a drop in libido are all common symptoms. Although polysomnography is the "gold standard" for diagnosis, the experts noted that a thorough history and careful physical examination may assist identify patients that had not yet been identified. They belonged to the physiology, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, psychiatry, paediatrics, and dental medicine departments.

Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences Celebrated World Stroke Day; Creates Public Awareness

November 2, 2022: One of the most frequent neurological conditions caused by an abrupt reduction in blood supply to the brain is a stroke or brain attack. Stroke is the fourth most prevalent cause of death and a main cause of disability in India, where its prevalence is rising.

According to medical data, 100–150 strokes per one lakh people occur in India every year. The most typical signs of stroke that everyone may quickly recognise are FAST: F - Face drop, A - Arm slackness, S - Speech difficulties, and T - Time. Any person who experiences these symptoms in less than ten minutes may have had a stroke.

According to Dr Santosh Dash, Associate Professor and Head of Neurology at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhubaneswar, "blood vessel blockages can cause permanent harm to the human brain. Time is of the essence in acute stroke because early intervention prevents irreversible damage to priceless brain tissue. Arriving at the hospital promptly, ideally within three hours, is essential for stroke therapy in cases of acute stroke. The likelihood of a full recovery from an acute stroke is good if the patient comes on time, but a permanent handicap is possible as well.”

The Geneva, Switzerland-based World Stroke Organization has proposed the focus of increasing awareness of stroke symptoms and the necessity of prompt hospital access to effective stroke care.

Every year on October 29th, World Stroke Day is commemorated to raise awareness of the disease and emphasise the value of prompt medical attention if someone comes across someone exhibiting FAST signs.

KIMS Secures 16th All India Rank, Best in Odisha

September 5, 2022: The 16th greatest private medical institute in India is the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), which has been at the forefront of ground-breaking research and cutting-edge medical care.

The Week Magazine's newest survey, which was conducted in collaboration with Hansa Research, also named KIMS, a division of KIIT Deemed-to-be University, as Odisha's top medical school.

The ranking has once again highlighted KIMS' ongoing commitment to providing patients with high-quality care and treatment as well as its unwavering pursuit of research initiatives. The medical centre takes pleasure in having eminent physicians on staff, some of whom have received Padma awards and are leaders in their professions.

According to the Education Ministry's NIRF, KIMS was ranked as the 30th top medical school in the nation in July. It was ranked second best among medical colleges in Odisha and fifth overall in the Eastern Region in the April edition of the Outlook Health Best Hospital Ranking 2022, which was published by Outlook magazine and NEB Research.

As a component School of Medicine within KIIT Deemed-to-be-University, KIMS had a modest beginning in 2007. It was the result of Dr Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT-KISSdream and desire to provide high-quality healthcare and services to individuals from all walks of life. It is now acknowledged as the largest provider of healthcare services in Eastern India.

CM inaugurates KIMS Super Speciality Hospital & Cancer Centre

August 01, 2022: In the presence of Dr Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS, and Naba Kishore Das, the state's minister of health and family welfare, the KIMS Super Speciality Hospital and the KIMS Cancer Centre were officially opened on Friday by Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik.

The CM enjoyed the upgraded amenities while touring the KIMS campus in a battery-operated car during his visit. The CM evaluated the patient-friendly programmes that KIMS has developed.

In order to better serve the general population and those in the economically disadvantaged sections, KIMS has expanded its infrastructure to include 1600 fully air-conditioned hospitals. Patients travelling from neighbouring states like West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand as well as from Odisha will be able to access the most cutting-edge medical care at the sophisticated complexes.

The addition of the new facilities would significantly increase the availability of high-quality healthcare at a reasonable cost, establish new standards, and reinforce KIMS' commitment to providing the finest care possible in Odisha alone.

There will be 12 Super Speciality departments in the 300-bed Super Speciality Hospital. These include urology, neurology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, clinical immunology, and rheumatology; orthopaedics and spinal surgery; and plastic surgery. They also include gastroenterology, hepatology, surgical gastroenterology, nephrology, and kidney transplant.

Prof. Bidhu Kalyan Mohanti, a renowned radiation oncologist, will be in charge of the 300-bed facility. With its five different Super Speciality Departments—Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, and Palliative Care—the Center will be of great assistance to residents of Odisha and beyond.

In Odisha, it is the sole facility with a few pieces of cutting-edge medical gear. The hospital has invented sophisticated techniques to hasten patient recovery, and top-tier organisations in India and overseas have recognised the hospital for its services. The majority of the departments are led by renowned physicians and Padma laureates, well-known figures who inspire equal parts awe and reverence. Evidently so, as it is now the top option for a large number of individuals in Eastern India.

In the All-India rating, the Gastroenterology and Neurology Departments are ranked 10th and Cardiology is ranked 12th, respectively.

KIMS began as a constituent School of Medical Sciences under KIIT Deemed-to-be-University in 2007 under the leadership of Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS, and has since grown to become one of Eastern India's largest healthcare service providers thanks to people's trust, goodwill, and wider recognition.

About 1,500 doctors, 950 highly qualified nursing staff and 900 paramedics make up Team KIMS, which supports the medical college and its constituent hospital. There are 1,000 people working in non-medical and support sectors such as patient care, IT, finance, insurance claims, and other areas, adding to the existing strength.

The course is tough, as are the faculty, but the patient inflow and the devices are worth it.

Placements: About 250 students are present in my batch, and the admission depends on the rank secured in NEET UG and the cutoff of that year. Internship is compulsory in MBBS. KIMS comes under the top 30 medical colleges in India. Admission depends on the trend of cutoff every year.

Good college life but not value for money.

Placements: There is an internal internship programme. There are 4.5 years of teaching and a 1.5-year internship. The payment for my senior batch was 35k per month, which keeps increasing per batch. Everyone gets the internship. After that, the students can look for jobs outside, opt for a juniorship in KIMS or prepare for a PG.

You get three major holidays here at KIIT at the end of the spring semester, during May and June. It's a 2-month-long vacation.
