Q:   Is it worth pursuing M.Sc. at Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Progressive Education Society?

A:
{Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's a summary of the key points:

Pros:
* Good faculty members who are knowledgeable and supportive
* Opportunities to pursue internships and higher studies abroad
* Industry-ready courses with subjects like Java, Python, C, C+, and algorithms
* Decent placements with top companies offering packages around INR6 lakhs
* College provides guidance on getting good internships and jobs

Cons:
* Limited campus placements (around 20-30%) with average package around INR3-5 lakhs
* Lack of exposure to recent industry developments among faculty members
* Old syllabus may require additional learning for industry relevance
* Limited availability of instruments and equipment for certain practicals
* No hostel facility within the college

Based on these points, while the college has its strengths, such as good faculty members and industry-ready courses, it also faces challenges regarding limited campus placements and outdated syllabi. Students may need to supplement their education with external resources to stay competitive in the market. Overall, whether or not it's worth pursuing M.Sc. at Modern College depends on individual circumstances and priorities.

M.Sc. Biotechnology at Modern College, Shivajinagar.
Placements: The college is star-rated under DBT, and it offers opportunities to study at Royal Melbourne University in Australia, RASA Life Science Pune, and applied nanomaterials. Many students from here go to Sydney and Boston. ICMR, Bharat Biotech, and Cipla are Indian hiring companies that offer packages of 6 lacs. Many students get internships abroad.
Infrastructure: Colleges provide students with a wide variety of sports, including basketball, football, cricket, and table tennis. Apart from regular sports, colleges have cycling clubs. We have Wi-Fi in the library and labs. Our classrooms are spacious; we have an auditorium and a conference hall. Apart from hostels, we have many rented rooms and PGs outside the college campus. Mess food has good quality; it is sufficient for one person.
Faculty: Teachers are very good. We have an instrument room, a media preparation room, and a separate incubation center for animal and plant culture. A specially equipped laboratory is available for Master's students. Our college is autonomous; they created our curriculum. Even achieving 24 marks as passing is very difficult; you need to prepare very well for the exam.
Other: I have a B.Sc. in biotechnology and want to explore more, so I am deciding to pursue a Masters in biotechnology.

Good faculty, they focus on skill improvement too.
Placements: Decent placements, mostly campus interviews are held in different colleges. Most students are placed in off-campus drives rather than on-campus drives. In on-campus, Datamatics, Information Origin, and Oasis are recruitment companies, but in off-campus, we are placed in Cognizant, Infosys, and TCS. Off-campus salary is also good; the average salary is 25,000 INR. They do not provide us with internships but guide us on how to get good internships.
Infrastructure: It was not good as there is no campus. Only a single building was there. The library does not have enough books, and for sports, there are no equipment to play. Wi-Fi is not available; only 4 floors of the building are there. Inside it, we have a canteen; its food is good. As there is no space for parking, we have to park our vehicle at the roadside.
Faculty: College staff and teachers are very helpful; they guide us on how to get good internships and jobs. Simply, they are the best career guides. The course curriculum is good; we have Java, Python, C, C++ languages, and algorithms that make us industry-ready. Semester exams are conducted as per the academic schedule of Pune University. Passing is very easy; not much hard.
Other: I gained knowledge from there and tried for off-campus drives. Luckily, I got a job at Cognizant, so that is very helpful for me.

Faculty members are great.
Placements: Our college has very few on campus placements. Around 20-30% students gets placements. The average package is 3-5lpa. College helps the students to get internship. Some of the local companies used to come to college for placements for the roles of junior chemist etc.
Infrastructure: College is located in a very big area. The classrooms of the college are big and airy. College has a beautiful garden in the centre and a ground for the sports activities. College has well-equipped lab. College has a library too which has all the required books. College has canteen in the campus which has cheap and good quality food. College has no hostel facility.
Faculty: All the teachers in the college are qualified and knowledgeable. The faculty members are very supportive and friendly to the students. Teachers used to provide proper knowledge to us. They used to help us in our projects. The exams in the college are semester exams which are tough to pass.
Other: Overall it is a good college. The placements in the college are not great. But the faculty of the college is great.

M.Sc. in Microbiology - Batch of 2022

I recommend joining this college because of good teachers and facilities.
Placements: In our course, there were 48 students in the batch. Only five students got placed. Top recruiting companies like Biocon, Cipla, etc., visited our campus. Many students got internships at Serum. Top roles offered were QC and QA.
Infrastructure: The hostel facilities were good. There was good environment. Elevators were available. Notice boards were available for announcements of news. Our college required good instruments and equipment for microbiology practicals like UV spectrophotometer, calorie meter, pH meter, incubator shaker, fridge, laminar air flow, centrifuge, vortex, and computers.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college were good.
Other: I chose this course for its upcoming scope in microbiology research and industry. It is an excellent course for any student.

M.Sc. in Statistics - Batch of 2022

Absolutely dissatisfied because of faculty and department.
Placements: The placement support was not so good. There was no campus placement drive conducted in the college. The department did not provide any kind of support for future opportunities for students in the statistical field. Do not expect a great placement support from the college.
Infrastructure: There was not so good Wi-Fi connection in the campus. The overall infrastructure was also not up to the mark. Classrooms were really small and tiny. Library also had a small collection of books so they really need to update it. Hostel facility was not there in the college so students went for the private rooms or PGs on their own.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful but there was a lack of experience in the teaching faculty. They didn't have the current industry knowledge which will be required in the future. The syllabus was quite old. So if you want to get into industry you have to learn some kind of skills on your own.
Other: No fest was conducted.

Good for studying biotechnology.
Placements: The placements offered are good for the bright students in the class. The rest have to struggle. But usually, the package provided is average. The students are usually recruited into the quality checking and quality assurance department of the company if not the lab work is provided.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is good. The labs are amazing and are well-equipped. All the practicals can be done with such equipment. Wi-Fi is not provided, but the internet can be accessed from the computer lab of the department which is accessible to all the students.
Faculty: The faculty members in the college are okay, some of them teach well, but some keep on changing every year most of them prefer teaching via the presentation method on the smart board, but most of them prefer blackboard, chalk and talk methodology for teaching the students.
