On Fees and Eligibility

Q:   Can I get admission in NIFT Gandhinagar for B.Des with 60% in Class 12th?

A:

Admission to the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) for programs like B.Des is primarily based on the NIFT entrance exam rather than solely on 11th/12th marks.

Aspiring students must have completed a 10+2 board exam from a recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)/State Board in New Delhi, or the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) in New Delhi. Additionally, candidates can be considered if they have completed any Board/Public School/University Examination conducted in India or abroad, which is equivalent to the 10+2 system and is accorded recognition by the Association of Indian Universities.

The NIFT entrance exam evaluates candidates' design aptitude, creativity, and other relevant skills. So, your performance in this entrance exam is a crucial factor in determining admission to NIFT Gandhinagar for the B.Des program. I appreciate your understanding and clarification on the admission process.

Q:   Which entrance exam scores does NIFT Gandhinagar accept for admission to M.Des?

A:

The admission criteria for the Master of Design (M.Des) programme at NIFT Gandhinagar includes three components: the Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test (SAT). The respective weightage for each of these components is as follows:

- *CAT (Creative Ability Test):* 50%
- *GAT (General Ability Test):* 30%
- *SAT (Situation Test):* 20%

These scores are considered collectively to determine a candidate's eligibility and suitability for admission to the M.Des programme at NIFT Gandhinagar. The CAT assesses creative and design-oriented abilities, the GAT evaluates general aptitude, and the SAT measures the candidate's performance in a specific situation test.

If a candidate has scored well in CAT, GAT, and SAT, their chances of securing admission to the M.Des programme at NIFT Gandhinagar are higher. It's important to note that the entrance exam scores play a significant role in the selection process, and candidates should aim for a well-rounded performance in all three components for a competitive application.

Review of National Institute of Fashion Technology.
Placements: Since it is a new course that started in 2021, campus placements are not provided. First batch of students took part in a research dissertation project in their final year.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is satisfactory but the buildings need some renovation. Hostel rooms are good with double occupancy including two beds with no mattresses, tables, racks, and mirrored almirahs. There is an extra space above the almirahs for storing additional items.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college are knowledgeable, well-qualified, and experienced. They interact with every student. The course curriculum is helpful in multiple disciplines and is an ideal option for students interested in research-oriented careers in any field.
Other: I chose this course because it is a research-based course.

Good college, with decent future prospects.
Placements: We are the second batch here at NIFT Gandhinagar, in M.Des programme. This is a research based course. So, they teach you systems thinking, problem solving thinking and design thinking methods. 4 main specifications in M.Des are curation, social design, UI UX, and strategy management design.
Infrastructure: Facilities are available. It is a bit small campus, compared to other new campuses. Hostel facility is available only for girls of first year. Food is good here. Doctors are available. Sports facilities are available.
Faculty: Four main depending specialisations are curation, design for society, ui UX, and strategic manage design. This M.Des programme is research based, and not product centred. It makes the students industry ready. The work we do here is good. 3 assignments, and final jury are conducted.

NIFT Gandhinagar overview.
Placements: The average package is around 6 LPA, and the lowest is 3 LPA. Around 50% of students get placed. Top recruiting companies are ABFRL, Arvind, Nykaa, and First Cry. Almost everyone gets an internship as it is mandatory. The top roles offered for our course are Consultant, Merchandiser, etc.
Infrastructure: We are provided with Wi-Fi, IT labs, PM labs, and sewing labs. The classrooms are well-equipped with AC and smart boards. The hostel is available only for first-year female students, and you can have food from the mess, but they charge for that. You’ll have to pay for one semester. The food is average, and medical facilities are available for students. Sports activities are also offered.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable and helpful. They are well-qualified and provide quality knowledge. In this course, we learn everything from management to coding, sewing, etc. The jury is really helpful for students, as it gives us an idea of how we should present our pitch. Mostly, they conduct juries, and there are only a few exams. The passing criteria are 50%.
Other: The course is a blend of both technology and fashion, and since I am interested in both, it was the best option for me. The course makes you industry-ready, as it teaches everything about the industry. There should be more in-depth knowledge provided instead of scattered information. No major events happen, only Spectrum and Converge. The campus crowd is decent. They provide Sarthak scholarships, and small club events keep happening.

They provide 2 beds, 2 wardrobes, 2 tables, and 2 chairs in each room. They provide washing machine service, with a common room, and an induction stove.
Faculty: Teachers are good. The course curriculum is good. They provide curatorial practices, and less visual communication.
Other: The course curriculum should be well-structured. Our faculty members should provide more practice. A few events and fests are held in our college.

Theory based curriculum; good for people who want to go for research.
Placements: We are the second batch of M.Des. So, right now none of us are placed. Top roles could be visual designer, ui ux design, art curator, social designer, ux researcher, social media expert, brand strategist, trends forecaster, social entrepreneur, systems thinker etc.
Infrastructure: The master of design is a fairly new course. Classrooms have ACs, projectors and Wi-Fi. The hostel is decent, however there are no AC or cooler in the hostel. There is also strict curfew timings. The college campus is very small, and there is no proper ground for sports. We only have one basketball, and badminton court.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified professionals, and do enough for the students. The course is research and theory based, and there are not a lot of practical works.
Other: A pretty expensive course, but the exposure and the brand name is decent.
