Techno India Group Students Unveil Spectacular Eight-Foot Durga Idol Crafted from Fabric
October 17, 2023: An auspicious event marked the unveiling of this unique idol, which was attended by several distinguished personalities, including renowned film director Mr. Arindam Sil, former Commissioner of Kolkata Police Shri Goutam Mohan Chakraborty, accomplished elocutionist Ms. Indrani Bhattacharya, and Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group. A total of sixteen students from Techno India Group's public schools, colleges, and universities worked together with the direction of three art teachers to produce this unique masterpiece. The idol was created using several types of cloth and took around a month to construct.
Durga Puja, a major cultural and religious holiday in West Bengal, has a unique place in Bengalis' hearts. Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group, stressed the organization's commitment to making Durga Puja a memorable event each year. Last year, their kids created a "Sustainable Durga" to raise awareness about environmental issues. They have excelled themselves this year by creating a magnificent idol of Goddess Durga entirely out of fabric, making it both a work of art and an environmentally responsible creation. "We invite Puja revelers to visit our campus and witness this unique work of art for themselves," stated Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury during the unveiling event. The idol represents a synthesis of artistic excellence with environmental stewardship, demonstrating the possibility of merging tradition and modernity.
The session began with an enthralling performance by the KOTR (Kids On the Rock) Ariadaha Band, followed by a heartfelt welcome from Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury. The spectacular reveal of the fabric Durga idol by the respected dignitaries was, of course, the event's highlight. The rhythmic rhythms of dhaaks, ancient Bengali drums played by female dhaakis, filled the air, immersing the audience in the festive spirit and wonderfully matching Maa Durga's request. The event closed on a joyous note with a stunning Dhunuchi dance that awed those in attendance with the creative prowess and passion of Techno India Group pupils. What makes this event even more remarkable is that last year's Durga idol, created by Techno India students from waste materials, is now proudly displayed at the Sovabazar Sarbojanin Durgotsav 2023, demonstrating the institution's commitment to sustainability and promoting environmental consciousness through their art and creativity.
