Review of upGrad - Chandigarh University.

Placements: In our college, placements are offered by both Upgrade and the university. There are plenty of reputed MNCs and well-funded startups available for recruitment. Getting an internship is easy, as the university carries a very good academic reputation. Top roles offered are a data analyst, data engineer, machine learning engineer, big data engineer, data scientist, etc.

Infrastructure: The course is completely based on technology. So, having a laptop with good specs is advisable for ease of learning and experimenting with the learned topics. Hostel facilities and campus life are irrelevant as this course is completely online and students do not need to visit the campus.

Faculty: Teachers are mostly industry professionals with solid core knowledge and relevant industry experience. The curriculum is relevant and up-to-date. The courses are well-catered to address most of our academic needs. Exams are moderate to difficult in terms of difficulty level.

Other: The programme is completely online, with lectures, assignments, and exams delivered exclusively online. The dedicated LMS is interactive and smartly designed to cater to all the needs of students. The academic support is commendable and always in a ready-to-help mode.

It is a waste of money, time and effort, and it offers only online degree courses.

Placements: I am not sure about placements by Upgrade/CU as I am not into the final semester yet. But by the looking of it, I wouldn't be much hopeful. I am not sure if any company would recruit us as the course content is a total waste. There is no real importance given for Maths, stats etc.

Infrastructure: The course content is below par. If you want just a degree, go for it. If you are looking to gain knowledge of the data science domain using Masters, don't even think of joining here. This college needs a lot of improvement. This is just recorded content with no interaction with teachers. Please think twice before you join here. Most of the major concepts are skipped or made optional, like PCA, big data using Hadoop, taylors, gradient descent etc.

Faculty: The curriculum is really bad. The management is replacing the present brochure subjects with pre-recorded content from other courses. They are adding modules that give minimal/zero value for a data science student. The syllabus is changed rapidly, and they make excuses for doing so. No mentor or teacher will be assigned to you. There is no personal mentorship. Live sessions are just adjustment sessions, and 24-hour discussion forum is just a mirage. Queries get 4 to 5 days to be answered, and some are not answered till date.

Other: 1.2 Lacs is the course fee, which is the same as the regular M.Sc. from CU. This is a very hefty amount for an underpar course like this. We are into the second semester, and we still haven't received any formal admission letter or an ID card. None of our queries are answered properly. The support teams make excuses to delay and prolong things. In the end, they say 'sorry, this can't be answered'. Half of the things that the academic counselor tells us are fake and only for marketing. Do not believe him blindly.
