The Rise of OTT Platforms in India Will Offer Students New Opportunities to Explore and Excel

November 01, 2021: According to a recent survey, India is one of the fastest-growing markets for streaming platforms, commonly known as OTT platforms (Over-The-Top). With a 28.6% annual growth rate, India's OTT market is predicted to become the sixth-largest by 2024, surpassing similar industries in numerous other nations.

India is the world's largest film producer, and the rise of digital content platforms has created a significant demand for qualified people. New, distinctive, and fresh talent is desperately needed to inject creativity and spontaneity into the content being created and the way the industry is operated.

This idea was explored and confirmed at Whistling Woods International, Asia's finest cinema, communication, and creative arts institute, during a recent special masterclass. The respected crew behind the sci-fi thriller JL50 spoke at the enlightening workshop. Piyush Mishra, actor; Shailender Vyas, writer-director; Ritika Anand, actor-producer; and Devendra Gandhi, executive producer, comprised the panel. Chaitanya Chinchlikar, Vice President, WWI, chaired the discussion and lead the interactive session.

Though the event began with each member discussing their opinions and experiences about the development of JL50, it quickly progressed to a discussion about the broader range of material and the role of rising OTT platforms. "Content input is needed in today's time, especially for specific movies, where long-format content is required," Piyush Mishra said. “Writers will love OTT because it allows them to easily communicate their stories and ideas. OTT platforms, he added, will provide new and better prospects for emerging directors, cinematographers, and skilled individuals in every sector of filmmaking, just as they do for authors.”

As the discussion came to a close, Devendra Gandhi, another WWI alumnus, spoke about his journey from student to industry expert. He recommended current students to trust their gut instincts after completing their formal education because it will be the best and most appropriate decision for their future professions.
