The 6th edition of the Whistling Woods International (WWI) School of Media & Communication (SMC) Masterclass Marathon recently wrapped up, providing students with a distinctive platform to learn from experienced professionals in Public Relations, Digital Marketing, and Sports Broadcasting. The event was marked by interactive sessions that encouraged a dynamic exchange of ideas and expertise, emphasizing WWI’s commitment to preparing its students for the evolving demands of the media and entertainment (M&E) industry.

Insights from Industry Leaders

The Masterclass Marathon commenced with a session led by Shashikant Someshwar, Managing Director of Current Global India. He explored the evolving role of public relations in today's marketing landscape, highlighting how the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted focus from traditional advertising to reputation management, bringing PR to the forefront. Someshwar discussed the increasing importance of storytelling in brand building and the necessity of media audits for assessing brand perception.

From Real Estate to Digital Marketing

The second session featured Govind Rai, Co-Founder of Insomniacs Digital Pvt. Ltd. and an alumnus of WWI. Sharing his journey from the real estate sector to digital marketing, he illustrated how innovation and perseverance led to the success of his firm, which now boasts a team of 300 and partnerships with Meta and Google. Rai urged students to embrace unique approaches in business instead of conforming to the "rat race," emphasizing the transformative impact of digital tools on transactions, particularly in real estate. He also stressed the importance of continuous skill development in AI and digital platforms.

The Evolution of Sports Broadcasting

The final session was conducted by veteran sports journalist Gaurav Kalra, who offered a comprehensive overview of sports broadcasting. Drawing on his experiences covering global events like the Olympics, he reflected on the technical challenges faced during early broadcasts compared to today’s advanced digital tools. Kalra highlighted the transformative power of social media in fostering real-time interactions between athletes and fans, alongside the growing relevance of data analytics in creating personalized content.

Bridging Academia and Industry

Rahul Puri, Director – Academics at WWI, remarked, “The SMC Masterclass Marathon is a vital platform for our students to engage directly with industry veterans. It exemplifies our commitment to bridge academic learning with real-world expertise. Each session delivered invaluable insights, offering students a deeper understanding of the evolving M&E landscape while equipping them with actionable tools needed to excel in their professional journeys. It’s a testament to the kind of immersive, career-oriented education we foster, where learning is dynamic, experiential, and directly aligned with industry needs.”
