Breaking News! NID to offer BDes course at all campuses

National Institute of Design (NID) has issued a notification informing that all its campuses would now be offering Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree programmes. Earlier, the newer NIDs which are – NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Assam, NID Madhya Pradesh and NID Haryana offered GDPD programmes to students who cleared NID Entrance Exam 2020.

The seats on offer in BDes programmes at these NID campuses will be as follows:

NID Admissions 2020: Major Changes

This year NID has made many changes in its admission policy. Most of these changes were introduced due to COVID-19 pandemic.

New NID Admission Process 2020 for BDes/ GDPD

NID Admission Cell changed the weightage allocated to NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains to create the result/ merit list. As per the earlier shortlisting criteria, the weightage allocated to NID DAT Prelims for BDes/ GDPD admissions was 30% and NID DAT Mains was allocated a weightage of 70%. However, the new weightage allocated to each of these exams for NID admissions 2020 is mentioned in the table below:

New NID Admission Process for MDes

The first and foremost change for MDes course admissions was that NID DAT Mains 2020 was conducted online. NID Admission Cell also changed the weightage allocated to NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains in order to create the final result/ merit list for MDes admissions. As per the earlier shortlisting criteria, the weightage allocated to NID DAT Prelims for admission in all MDes specialisations was 30% and NID DAT Mains weightage was 70%. However, the new weightage allocated to each of these exams for NID admissions 2020 (for all MDes specialisations) is mentioned in the table below:

NID MDes Admissions 2020

NID DAT Prelims: 60%

NID DAT Mains: 40%

Common Design Aptitude Test: 15%

Design Specific Test: 45%

New NID Final Merit List Tie-Break Criteria 2020

Mentioned below is the step-wise tie-breaking policy that was followed by NID Admission Cell while preparing the final merit list for BDes/ GDPD admissions 2020 through NID entrance exam 2020. In a situation wherein the total marks secured by two or more candidates is the same, then NID will follow the below mentioned tie-break policy for awarding ranks:

  • Higher rank to be assigned to the aspirant who has obtained higher marks in NID DAT Mains 2020
  • If this criteria does not break the tie, then higher rank to be assigned to the aspirant who has obtained higher marks in NID DAT Prelims
  • If this criteria does not break the tie, then higher rank to be assigned to the aspirant who has obtained higher marks in NID DAT Prelims Test Part II
  • If this criteria does not break the tie, then higher rank to be assigned to the aspirant who has obtained higher total marks in Question No.- 25,26 & 27 of NID DAT Prelims Test Part II
  • If this criteria does not break the tie, then higher rank to be assigned to the aspirant who has obtained higher marks in Question No.- 25 of NID DAT Prelims Test Part II
  • If this criteria does not break the tie, then higher rank to be assigned to the aspirant who has obtained higher marks in Question No.- 26 of DAT Prelims Test Part II
