Career in Automobile Engineering: Scope, Courses, Jobs & Salary
Automobile Industry is a huge sector and one of the most essential products in every human’s life as without commutation no work is possible. The automobile industry changes every day as new technology arrives and therefore one who studies automobile engineering has to keep themselves updated with the current norms.
Automobile Engineering is one of the most advanced courses in engineering that involves making of an automobile, including manufacturing, operation, design and investigation of it during repairs, reconstruction and modification. It involves the designing of automobiles like that of cars, buses, trucks and all kinds of vehicles used for road transportation. The degree in automobile engineering also offers various specialisations in the field of aerodynamics, emissions, chassis, ergonomics, alternative fuels, electronics, materials, motorsport, vehicle, manufacturing, rapid prototyping, pedestrian safety, supply chain management, and power train.
Eligibility Criteria for Automobile Engineering
The degree of automobile engineering is a four-year engineering degree course in BE or B.Tech programmes. The students need to have minimum eligibility of passing their 10+2 board or any equivalent exams from a recognised board with subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects. The students should have scored a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent marks in their board exams to be eligible for admissions. Some of the top prestigious institutes like that of the BITS, IIT’s and the NIT’s require a minimum aggregate score of 60 per cent in board exams. The students of diploma in the mechanical and related stream of electrical or electronics can also take admission through lateral entry entrance examinations in the second year of the engineering program after their completion of Diploma. Students of Bachelor degree in Science are also eligible for lateral entry in the automobile engineering programmes.
Required Skillset for Automobile Engineering Course
The students who plan to take up an automobile engineering degree course should be first of all students who are interested in Science. Because subjects such as Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry play an important role in understanding the subjects in the degree course. They should also have an interest in cars and auto mechanics. They should have a knack for working in organised and systematic environments with the skill of time management. The students should also have an interest in resolving mechanical problems. A keen sense of creative and innovative solutions in repairs, designing and drawing are the potential candidates for this type of degree course.
Automobile Engineering Course: Fees Structure
Some of the potential automobile engineering colleges in India charge an average tuition fee ranging between Rs 10,000-4 lakh per year. Some of the top private colleges such as Manipal University, SRM University, Amity University may also charge more than Rs 4 lakh as per year fees due to demand in admissions. Government colleges such as Indian Insitute Technology (IIT) and National Insitute of Technology (NIT) charge a reasonable fee which is round about Rs 4 lakh per year, but the average placements salary that they provide are amazing as compared to other engineering colleges.
