The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Kanpur) will be making portable ventilators to provide medical assistance to coronavirus patients. HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank informed that to offer medical aid to growing coronavirus patients, IIT-Kanpur had pronounced to make portable ventilators to aid the government. In these tough times, the way IIT-Kanpur has come forward is praiseworthy. The minister also acknowledged the team commanded by Amitabha Bandhopadhyaya for their initiative. The minister tweeted that our distinguished institutes stand true to the commitment of improving lives and enable healthcare services. Apart from this, many higher educational institutes such as IIT-Hyderabad have come up with either hand sanitisers or are working on to develop the vaccine.

A research team from IIT-Delhi has developed a new method of testing coronavirus which is said to bring down the cost per test kit. As these would be designed indigenously, this will also solve the problem of not many kits being available. The National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune is going through the process of authenticating this test on clinical samples. In the meantime, the institute has invited applications for MTech, MDes, PhD and MS programmes at its official website - iitk.ac.in. The application process is underway and will end on April 7, 11:59 pm.

Applicants must have cleared an ensuing degree with at least 55 per cent marks. In the relevant domain, candidates must have also cleared GATE. On the basis of merit, candidates will be called for interview and document verification.
