Amid all the scare and panic IIT Madras incubated startup GUVI (Grab Your Vernacular Imprint) is providing IT skilling courses online free of cost to prepare students for campus placements.

Coronavirus/COVID-19 has fractured educational operations all around the globe. Almost all educational institutions have closed their campus and shifted the teaching-learning process online. Amid all the scare and panic IIT Madras incubated startup GUVI (Grab Your Vernacular Imprint) is providing IT skilling courses online free of cost to prepare students for campus placements. The course is being offered to the students who would have been impacted by the nation-wide closure due to COVID-19.

While final semester examinations are fast approaching for engineering colleges, training centres for campus placement are shut due to COVID-19 scare. The start-up is the last resort for students who are to appear for the campus placements.

According to the institute, in order to access the courses on the online platform of GUVI without paying any charges, students have to subscribe to www.guvi.io. GUVI is offering its platform to all the engineering students affected by the shutdown related to COVID-19 for two weeks.

As the name suggests, GUVI offers an online platform for students to study in their mother tongue. The platform is now offering specialized courses to upskill students and prepare them for campus placements without leaving their homes.

According to the official statement released by the institute, to help the students become ‘job ready’, more than 100 technologists from top product companies of the industry have volunteered to conduct free webinar sessions for 30 days. The sessions will be related to top IT skills that companies look for during the hiring process. Students have a chance to learn these skills free of cost on GUVI from the comfort of their houses.

The platform has mentors to support students and help them practice the concepts on ‘Code Kata’ (GUVI’s online coding platform).

Talking about the initiative, GUVI’s Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. S.P. Balamurugan stated the institute is not only ensuring the safety and health of the students but is also working on upskilling them for bright job prospects. GUVI’s contribution during this period is significant towards the institute’s goals.

He also praised the hiring partners of the institute for being gracious in supporting the initiative.
