All teaching and non-teaching staff of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will contribute their one-day salary to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has today announced that all its teaching and non-teaching staff will donate one-day salary to the Prime Minister's coronavirus relief fund, as a contribution to help the government in its fight against coronavirus.

The decision was made after a consultative meeting between the AMU Teachers Association representatives, elected members of the Executive Council and representatives of the non-teaching staff under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor,

"During these crucial times, when the whole country is fighting with the coronavirus pandemic, it is our duty to come forward and stand with our countrymen," said the Vice-Chancellor.

The representatives at the meeting said that we hope the country will soon come out of this, and there will be a new dawn of full activity, progress, and development.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that in order to combat the coronavirus crisis and similar situations arising in the future, the government has formed PM Cares Fund or the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund. The fund will work under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister and its members will be Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.

The country has recorded the highest single-day spike in fresh cases today of novel coronavirus with the number crossing 1,400. The death toll due to COVID-19 has reached 48.

While the Union Health Ministry said that the virus is still at its local transmission stage in the country and has not moved to the community transmission phase, the Supreme Court today cautioned that fear and panic are now the bigger problems than the coronavirus.
