IIT Kanpur is trying its level best to help their fellow workers who are affected severely due to COVID-19 lockdown. The institute decided to pay full salaries to all contractual laborers, daily wage laborers, mess and other project employees.

Amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) took the initiative to extend helping hands toward the people who are directly and indirectly dependent upon the campus. The COVID-19 spread in India led to 21 days lockdown, putting restrictions on people from stepping out of the house. On March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the 21 days lockdown and citizens to practice social distancing to combat the virus spread in India.

The lockdown might help in battling the virus spread but it has definitely affected the earnings of people belonging to lower economic strata. While the government has come up with PM CARES fund to help the needy, IIT Kanpur also decided to do its part. The technology is trying its level best to help their fellow workers who are affected severely due to COVID-19 lockdown. The institute decided to pay full salaries to all contractual laborers, daily wage laborers, mess and other project employees.

The director of IIT Kanpur, Abhay Karandikar, in his latest tweets shared that institute is making sure that amid the lockdown period, the MTech & PhD students shall also receive the full assistance-ship amount.

Mr Karandikar further revealed that the institute is extending its kindred spirit to the nearby areas by running a kitchen to cook and distribute the food to the needy people living around the campus.

As we all are in this crisis together and altogether we can fight this national emergency, the director personally appealed the faculty and staff members of IIT Kanpur to generously donate towards to PM CARES fund.
