Fake News Alert: No, IIT Bombay not to scrap all the exams

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Kapur have slammed a noted media house for running fake news about various IITs around the country looking for options to conduct year-end exams online or scrapping them.

 

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, IIT Bombay has slammed a noted media house for running fake news about various IITs around the country looking for options to conduct year-end exams online or scrapping them.

One of the media houses had earlier claimed that IIT Bombay has scrapped all exams to be conducted this year and will mark students based on past performance. They also claimed that IIT Kanpur is planning to follow the same procedure.

Expressing his strong objection, IIT Bombay, Director, Subhasis Chaudhuri said that IITs are still working out on ways on the closure of the current semester. During the time of such a pandemic, such a news item adds to the agony and anxiety of our students who are away from the campus. Please stop such fake news.

Expressing the his views about the same, IIT Kanpur, Director, Abhay Karandikar, tweeted that media needs to act as responsible citizens. The things attributed in the article about IIT Kanpur are false.

In March, all the educational institutions around the country were closed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The classes were suspended and exams were also postponed due to which many colleges, universities and academic institutions pan India could not close the semester.

The country went under complete lockdown as a preventive measure on March 21, this has also impacted the overall admission process. The JEE Advanced 2020 which was supposed to be conducted on May 17 has also been postponed and will now be held on August 23.

JEE Advanced is conducted every year by one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT KharagpurIIT KanpurIIT MadrasIIT DelhiIIT BombayIIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB).
