Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar released a revised academic calendar for the ongoing semester.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar released a revised academic calendar for the ongoing semester. The outbreak of novel coronavirus followed by the nationwide lockdown hampered academic activities. The COVID-19 lockdown not only led to the suspension of classes but also delayed exams, result and commencement of the next academic year.

Amid all the chaos, IIT Ropar released a revised calendar for the already enrolled students. The calendar came as a relief for the students who were uncertain about their academic future in the midst of these difficult times. The institute released a notification on its official website i.e. http://www.iitrpr.ac.in/. According to the revised calendar, the institute if set to conduct exams online from June 1 until June 7. However, the institute is yet to release a set date sheets for the exams. The official statement released by IIT Ropar reads, “Consequent upon the approval by the Chairman, Senate, following is the revised academic calendar for the current semester.”

For the students who won’t be able to appear for the exam due to lack of internet connective or device, the institute states, “This plan is to facilitate students' graduation on time. There will be, however, a few students who would not be able to take the exam/submit project reports on time due to a variety of reasons including lack of internet connectivity/ unavailability of laptop, PCs smartphone/ Medical issues/ other unforeseen issues. Their requests (accompanied by reasons) to take exams/extension in project submission would be considered on a case to case basis for completing these requirements along with the continuing students”.

The notice further reads, “In courses with students from non-graduating batches, this online examination will be given along with the graduating students. However, if the course is a IA/ 2nd/3rd-year B.Tech/MTech core course with only backlog students or a course with a small number of graduating students, the exam may be held only for such students leaving out the rest of the students (for whom the examination will be conducted at a later date)”.

Related to the laboratory works, the institute said, “Regarding the lab courses, virtual labs will be conducted, mandatorily for graduating class of 2020, for other students, all efforts will be made to complete the lab components to the extent possible, Students are advised to get in touch with the course instructor(s) for details in this regard.”
