The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar has unveiled the Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers' Lab (TL), a maker space designed to inspire and empower the next generation of engineers and innovators. Open 24/7 to all students, this state-of-the-art facility has been established with generous support from the Maker Bhavan Foundation (MBF) through a donation by philanthropist Dr. Ranbir Singh. The launch represents a major milestone in advancing STEM education and fostering a culture of innovation at IIT Ropar.

The Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers' Lab is envisioned as a transformative space where creativity merges with engineering, empowering future leaders to develop the skills to shape tomorrow's technology. It is a vibrant hub for aspiring engineers, innovators, and makers. It encourages students to see technology not merely as an academic subject but as a dynamic tool for creativity and future-ready skills. Designed to empower exploration and experimentation, the lab provides an environment where students can tinker, build, and transform their ideas into tangible, real-world solutions.

Equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technology, the lab offers 24/7 access, enabling students to work on projects beyond standard academic hours. This open-access model fosters unrestricted creativity and paves the way for groundbreaking and original innovations.                                                 

Dr. Ranbir Singh, an honorary Alumnus (La casa) of the Indian Institute of Technology, is a key donor for Tinkerers’ Lab IIT Ropar. He expressed his excitement, stating, “Investing in the future of our youth is crucial. Tinkerers’ Lab will provide students with the resources they need to turn their ideas into reality. I hope this facility ignites a spark of creativity in all who enter.”

Q:   Is BTech available at IIT Ropar?

A:

 IIT Ropar provides a comprehensive four-year undergraduate BTech programme. Admission to the BTech programme at IIT Ropar is determined entirely through an entrance examination. Specifically, IIT Ropar BTech admission relies on the JEE Advanced score, which is attained by candidates who have already qualified in the JEE Main exam. The central admission process for all IITs is coordinated by JoSAA, a centralised authority that administers seat allocation for candidates who have successfully cleared the JEE Advanced exam.
