After taking JEE Main exam, you might be wondering how to utilize your remaining days till JEE Advanced i.e. around 50 days. The JEE Advanced preparation in the gap between JEE Main and JEE Advanced is an important phase of the entire JEE preparation. Relax for 2 or 3 days after JEE Main, as now you will be preparing in an entirely different way for upcoming 45 to 50 days focusing solely on JEE Advanced (no boards and JEE Main now!). Make sure that your JEE Advanced performance is not be affected by how you did in JEE Main. It's completely different from Mains.

By this time you should have an idea about your preparation level. Keeping all your strengths and weaknesses in mind, we hope that you will leave no stone unturned in the last leg of preparation to tackle JEE Advanced.

Few things you should keep in mind while preparing during this time

    • If you have done well in JEE Main and you’re expecting a good rank, then be happy and confident that you will score well in JEE Advanced too. But, if you are not satisfied with your performance in JEE Main, don’t worry, you can still do great if you really want to. Just trust yourself and don’t be tensed.
    • Revise: With time running out, the most important task is managing the time you have in the most efficient way possible. Revise all the concepts from notes with flags on question requiring tricks and analytical reasoning. Devote equal time to all the 3 subjects. Do not study new topics. Just review all the chapters that you practiced in last two/three years. You should not learn new things in these 45-50 days.
    • Timetable: You might not be having any fixed schedule of studying but you should make one now. Start waking up early by 6:00 am and do study during 9-12 and 2-5 pm as you have to give your exam at this time. So, you will have a habit and won’t be tired on the D-day.
    • Understand your weaknesses and strengths. This is not the time to learn anything fresh or solving difficult problems from your weak areas. Focus your energy on learning and retaining. This time you will not get chance for another revision. Different from rote learning, JEE advanced requires analytical skills with a great emphasis on critical thinking. Hence, you should be able to think on new problems by applying the concepts you have learned.
    • Mock tests: Solve mock tests and past papers to know weak areas in your preparation. Strengthen these areas and check with further mock tests. Keep a track of time taken to solve questions and keep it to a bare minimum. Given the limited time frame in which the JEE Advanced paper needs to be cracked, it is always a good practice to monitor the time spent per question, while practicing. Give as many mock tests as you can before taking JEE Advanced, sit for the mock tests according to JEE Advanced timings (i.e. 9-12 and 2-5). Try to go for a test series which gives you a proper analysis your current performance and where you stand now. The aim is to boost your self-confidence by solving previous years’ papers, revising topics, and doing good questions.
    • Mug up NCERT chemistry especially for the Inorganic part. Learn all the reactions, the color of compounds, their states. Don’t leave exceptions. They are asked too.
  • Mechanics is the base to the entire syllabus of Physics in JEE Advanced. It accounts for 20-25% of the entire JEE physics question paper. If there is a question from Rotational dynamics in JEE Advanced, then it will check concepts from Newton’s law of motion, Work, Power & Energy, Centre of mass etc. These type of questions are very common in JEE Advanced. You are required to practice a lot of such questions.
  • Pure questions from Trigonometry, Logarithms may not be asked but questions involving Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Sequence & Series may use properties of Trigonometry and Logarithms. So, it’s better to go through entire formulas and apply them to different types of questions.
  • You should ensure that you have at least 5 to 7 days just for final revision. Remember that this week is only for revising what you have already studied (especially Chemistry) and not to pick any new topic that you haven’t studied so far. In this way, you can summarize all the topics/chapters before the exam.
  • Students tend to ignore their health and sleep while preparing during this time. It is advised that they must sleep for at least 7-8 hours a day. Developing a habit of eating right will keep you nourished and supply sufficient energy to carry on with studies.
  • Believe in yourself. Trust the efforts that you have put in throughout the JEE preparation. Getting tensed a week before the exam is not good for you.Avoid negativity. Keep your mind free and possibly do things which relax you, like listening to music or anything which keep you relaxed.
  • Exam day: Go through the question papers carefully in the exam hall. Prioritise order of answering subject-wise, question-wise. Further, you can increase your rank by avoiding negative marks. You must attempt all those questions which do not carry negative marks. Finally, don’t be nervous if you find the paper tough since it is the relative performance that counts and determines your rank. Give your best and have confidence in yourself and your preparation.

These 45-50 days of your JEE Advanced preparation might have a great effect on your rank. Serious JEE aspirants study for as much as 15 hours per day during this time. To be competent, you should give your best to the preparation.

Remember, all the efforts that you put in the JEE Advanced preparation might be wasted if you do not utilize these 40-50 days properly. So, put all your energy into it and do your best. Good luck!
