Mystory@Aditya Kaushik: How I chose my course and college
For my class 9th and 10th, I was admitted in a school where we were offered engineering entrance based education. I was good in Science and Mathematics except Biology. So I selected MPC (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) for my 11th and 12th standard. I do not regret my choice because I knew I liked these subjects and studying them would make me better in this field. Of all the subjects, Chemistry was my strength and also my favourite. Unlike many others who hate the subject, I studied Chemistry conceptually and also I had awesome faculty who taught me really well. I pursued my Class 11th and 12th from Sri Chaitanya Narayana Junior College which provided me great help in studying engineering stream subjects.
I appeared for IIT JEE in which I had a decent rank (in 4000s). I always had a passion for computers and technology. Hence, I wanted to study Computer Science and Engineering course and was open to studying it wherever I could get admission. Finally, I zeroed in on a Dual Degree Computer Science and Engineering course at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.
I have always followed my passion and interest because I know that in the end this is something which will pay off. I aim to contribute towards technological advancements as well as to the society, in whatever way I can and I am working on these grounds.
How I cracked college admission
I am currently pursuing a Dual Degree Computer Science and Engineering course from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad since 2014. One needs to clear IIT JEE to secure admission in this college. I worked hard and gave the exams with a steady mind which helped me get admission.
I gave many entrance tests including SRMJEEE (acquired 105 AIR), BITSAT (score 349), VITEEE (I do not remember the rank but it wasn’t so good), I was also planning to appear for SAT but due to some passport issues I couldn’t give the exam. I gave JEE Mains and JEE Advanced through which I got selected for my current course. Fortunately enough I did not have to take a drop year to secure admission and I am happy with my college.
I prepared for entrance exams at my school itself where we had to give mock tests weekly. Apart from this, I also gave a few mock tests at FIITJEE and that paid off well. The only problem was that I got a bit tensed while giving my JEE Advanced exam and so I was not able to perform as well as I expected.
My target colleges
My aim was to get into IIT Bombay, my dream IIT since the point I came to know about IITs. But on the entrance exam day my performance wasn’t up-to-the mark as I got tensed. So, my advice for aspirants is – Never get tensed in exams. Anyways, I am happy to be pursuing Computer Science and Engineering, my dream course.
What I gained from my college experience
I make it a point to complete my studies on time so that one week before the exam I am usually free. I attend my classes regularly to stay in touch with topics being taught, and the week before exams I go through everything. Here, being regular in studies helps a lot. If in case I have some urgent project work and some other work comes upon me, I simply distribute the work to people I can rely upon to get it done. And till date, there have not been any complaints against me because of my reputation. I manage many clubs and societies and everyone considers me to be a guy who gets things done.
Academic and co-curricular activities
My college has many clubs, which operate through the year and through which students can participate in various events outside the campus. A few of these clubs are in the areas of – Dramatics, Music, Literary, Dance, Coding, Development etc. I am a part of Literary Club and every week we have a session which happens at Student Activity Centre. We organise various literary events related to communication, writing and speaking. Further we participate in fests of other institutions. The academic classes are held at Lecture Hall Complex, which has a 4-floor building with projectors, boards and other facilities. Exams are conducted mid-semester and end of semester. The college is supportive to organise academic and non-academic events.
At the end, I want to advise aspirants that in order to be successful in their studies as well as the outside world they need to work towards managing their time well and be prepared to multi-task.
