Mystory@Sanjay Kumar Kalraiya: How I selected my course and made my career
Engineering was in my blood. My father is an eminent automobile engineer, a pass out from Goverment Polytechnic, Sadar, Nagpur in 1957. I always heard from both my paternal and maternal grandparents that since my childhood, I wanted to become an engineer.
In 1968, it was not that easy. I stood first in school in the SSC board. After XII, in 1978, I got admitted in College Of Engineering, Amravati, Maharashtra in Mechanical Engineering and then got transferred to erstwhile Visvesarya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur. I passed in 1982 and joined Bajaj Auto Ltd. Pune in their automate section in the machine shop.
I started my journey in machining and now, in 2016, I have my own company for training on cutting tools, machine tools, CNC programming, GD & T, SPC and Metallurgy of common materials used in the automobile industry. I have a rich experience of the auto industry and I am enjoying engineering as a hobby.
I was studious and only studied. I preferred foreign authors’ books and our professors too recommended that only. No Khurmi, no R K Jain, no Ramamrutham. We read Shames, Beer & Johnson, Millman Halkias, Hughes, F L Singer etc. One of my hobbies was watching classic movies. I also enjoyed flying kites from my terrace. I used to play a lot of gilli danda and marbles, too. I was not a top scorer as I spent time understanding the concepts instead of memorising the formulae.
My profession is my hobby. I have not passed my time. I have lived the time.
Today, I am trainer and a coach in Engineering and Management. I have a fulfilling life. A beautiful wife and lovely daughters. Parents’ blessings and wishes of friends and relatives has enriched my life. My fraternity in profession, my ex bosses, colleagues, subordinates, customers, suppliers and others have contributed a lot in my life. I am grateful to all of them.
I have been always short on time. I don’t watch TV. I remain updated through news on the mobile phone. I enjoy spending time with my family, I mean my parents, brothers, wife, daughters, relatives and friends.
