How I chose my course and college: Shrey Arora

YMCA, Delhi

My journey of pursuing Engineering started from class 6th. I was very keen in exploring electronic items. Most of the time, I used to open the electronic toys and torches, just to see how they are made, and after disintegrating them, I used to try assemble them again. However, sometimes, the attempts were futile. My parents used to scold me for that, but my passion and love for electronic items was inherent. In class 10th, I got 10 CGPA, with all options open in front of me for choosing a stream of my choice. My passion and love for Engineering made me choose non-medical stream. I was not financially strong enough to take any coaching or tuition classes. Nevertheless, I was determined to get a good government college in order to achieve my goal. I just took the help of YouTube and other sources on the Internet in order to understand the JEE Main questions and concepts, along with my NCERT books of all the three subjects to get a proper understanding. All of you might be surprised to know that I was the one in school who used to solve everyone’s queries from their coaching workbook. It was all just because of my determination and hard work that made my learning power this strong.

In 11th class, I got 92 percent. I was awarded a scholarship by my school and my tuition fee was exempted. In the summer time, I used to download practice papers of JEE to solve them.

My teachers played a major role in this as they used to clarify my doubts. It was all due to their guidance, support, and of course my hard work, that I secured a rank of 47000. Though I was expecting more, it was still appreciated by my elders and teachers since without any coaching and guidance, I was able to secure that rank.

In class 12th, I got 94.5 percent in non-medical. I got YMCA in my first physical counselling round, with the choice of either ECE or EIC, from which I took the latter as it was my passion. My journey in this college so far has been full of challenges and struggles. But after achieving my goal, the satisfaction that I have got cannot be expressed. In YMCA too, I continued my streak of “good scores” as I maintained a CGPA of about 8.4 in the first year.

I wish to continue my endeavours towards my future goals like this.
