Indian Institute of Technology Indore to teach a course in Sanskrit that will include mathematics and science classes.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has introduced a course which will conduct mathematics and science classes in Sanskrit language. The announcement about the course was made by the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. It is a unique initiative by the institute which would help the New Education Policy 2020’s vision to be forwarded, the Education Minister tweeted.

"The NEP-2020 will make the country multi-lingual, hopeful. It will stand on the basis of Indianness and reach international limits, it will be effective and will help in ensuring the continuance of dialogue. It will also be inclusive," Nishank had said earlier.

"In line with the vision of #NEP2020, @IITIOfficial has introduced a unique course to impart mathematical & scientific knowledge in #Sanskrit to students," the Education Minister tweeted.

As per an official of the IIT Indore, “the course was started to in a bid to expose the present generation to ancient knowledge.” The All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE had also sponsored a quality improvement programme that would function till October 2, 2020, with a total of 62 hours of online classes. “The course will inspire participants to research, innovate, study and teach mathematics and science in Sanskrit,” said IIT Indore.

“Ancient texts of India, originally composed in Sanskrit, have a rich heritage of mathematical and scientific knowledge and the present generation is unaware of this. We started this course to make them aware of this ancient knowledge in Sanskrit itself,” said professor Neelesh Kumar, the director of IIT, Indore.

The course will be divided into two parts in which all the candidates will at first be taught the nuances of Sanskrit which would help them build their understanding of the language and the second part will be teaching them classical mathematics in Sanskrit too.
