O. P. Jindal Global University named the cleanest in India

The HRD Ministry announced Swachhta Rankings for higher education institutions across the country recently. The list comprises of a total of 18 institutes divided into four separate categories: University, Colleges, Technical Institutions and Government Institutions.

As many as 3500 institutions took part in the rankings which was based on two components: 1. In-campus hygiene and 2. Activities outside the campus. While the first component was given 85% weightage, the second was given 15% weightage.

According to the list, private institutions have fared better than government institutions. In the first category of University, O. P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana bagged the first placed and was thus announced as the cleanest campus in the country. 12 out of the 18 institutions listed in the rankings are from Tamil Nadu. Besides IIT Guwahati, none of the other IITs featured in the list.

Since no government institution made it to the Top 50 list of the drive, the government had to create a separate category for them. G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand topped the list in the government category while IIT Guwahati secured the fifth position.

Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode, Tamil Nadu topped the chart among Colleges while Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore stood first among technical institutions.
