UGC Guidelines 2020: Hyderabad University to release admission, semester exam details after May 7
The University of Hyderabad has said that a modified academic calendar, including pending end-semester examinations and entrance exams for admitting new students to various programmes, will be released after May 7.
A day after the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued new guidelines on examination and academic calendar for colleges and universities in view of coronavirus outbreak, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has announced that it after May 7 it will finalise on modifying the academic calendar. The modification will also include a schedule for pending end-semester examinations and entrance exams for admitting new students to various programmes.
The University of Hyderabad, has also declared an early annual vacation for faculty members and will now last until May 21. The varsity has also taken the decision to extend the last date of submission for research students pursuing MPhil and Ph.D. degrees.
The last date for submission of applications for new admissions to all programmes has been extended Until May 22. The varsity said that it is making every effort to align with the recommendations made by the UGC Panel.
On April 30, the Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal had unveiled the recommendations made by the UGC panel. Based on the recommendations made by the panel, the universities have been asked to start the new academic session by September and resume classes for old students from August. The panel has also suggested that the universities should hold exams for final year students only and the rest of the students should be passed based on their internal marks. The universities, however, have the liberty to chose their own ‘innovate’ examination pattern and dates.
“The plan is to stagger the return of students and complete semester work in phases in a manner that is empathetic to the current situation of students, even while ensuring that no compromise is done on the high academic standards of the University,” the varsity said in an official statement.
“As a central university that has students from all over the country, most of whom have gone back to their homes, the University is conscious of the fact that any resumption of the academic schedule must be preceded by the lifting of the lockdown across the country so that students can travel back to Hyderabad,” the official statement read.
