University of Hyderabad, Ghent University Signs MoU for Language and Cultural Exchange
The MoU between both universities will aim for cultural and language exchange in order to reduce the social differences and practices followed in communities.
The University of Hyderabad has signed a Memorandum of understanding with the Department of Languages and Cultures at Ghent University, Belgium. The strategic alliance has been formed for the Nilgiri Archaeological Project which is an exploration programme for the study of cultural and environmental history of South India.
The academic collaboration would focus on the relationship between language and culture. Further, the research would also examine the effects of language on social identities, cultural practice and group dynamics. The research would further talk about the role including interviews and observations within the communities to know the language use in the cultural contexts.
As per the university, the primary focus will be on the Toda, Badaga and Kota languages where documenting and preserving the linguistic diversity will be carried out. Additionally, the assignment would also analogise the phrasing practices between cultures to comprehend the universal and culture-specific features.
Dr. N. Ramesh is a Research, Partner in the Nilgiri Archaeological Project, and is an associate professor at the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad. He holds a PhD in Linguistics programme.
In the meantime, the University of Hyderabad has conducted an international seminar on eco-criticism and Urdu literature at the premises. The university will also conduct the Golden Jubilee academic writing workshop for interested and eligible students on November 21 and 22. The event will be organised by the Department of History and the Centre for Folk Culture Studies.
