About Ashoka University’s Young India Fellowship
Started in 2011, the fellowship programme brings together 300 bright scholars from diverse academic, socioeconomic, professional and geographical backgrounds. The fellowship gives the students exposure to an array of new-age educational experiences that help in acquiring enhanced intellectual and professional capabilities. The programme is aimed at training young people to become effective leaders of tomorrow, with a strong commitment to public service, irrespective of the chosen career path.
A class of YIF typically comprises doctors, artists, economists, engineers, musicians, business and literature graduates, writers, entrepreneurs and also people from many other backgrounds.
The disciplines range from social sciences to sciences and from leadership to the arts. The course includes art appreciation, public policy, business essentials, Shakespeare, gender and media studies, leadership, group dynamics, communication and Indian elections.
The current YIF student body consists of 301 students from more than 120 villages, towns and cities from over 25 Indian states and Union Territories. They represent more than 180 undergraduate institutions and half of the students have work experience. There are more female-identifying students in the programme than any other gender expression.
The University has also partnered with institutions like the University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, HEC Paris, Trinity College Dublin, University of California, Stanford University, Duke University, and Yale University among others, to enable faculty, curriculum and student exchange.
