COVID-19 Lockdown: JNU VC directs teachers to take online classes

Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-chancellor has asked faculty members to conduct online classes for the students to keep them in touch with the academics during this period of complete lockdown.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar has asked all the faculty members to stay in contact with the students and to keep them engaged in academic

actitivites start taking online classes.

Kumar in a letter to the faculty members said, to avoid any study loss during these 21-days lockdown announced by the government, lecturers should start providing online classes to the students. During these online classes, teachers have been asked to share lecture notes, presentations, lessons, and texts. Teachers have also been requested to help solve academic queries of students either by email, Whatsapp or video conferencing.  

For those who are still staying on the JNU campus, he said, all residents should avoid walking and strolling along the campus roads. This 21-days lockdown period should be followed strictly in order to prevent further spread of COVID-19, he added.

In a bid to maintain social distancing, he said, only one family member will be allowed to come to the campus market area for purchasing essentials. 

He requested the campus community to unite together to eradicate COVID-19 from the country, by following all precautionary guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the 21-day lockdown period imposed by the government.

Earlier, the campus was closed amid coronavirus outbreak. However, with many unable to do so, the administration have kept few hostels opened with basic mess facilities. The entry of outsiders into the campus has also been banned.

The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in India today has surged to 649. With one death in Rajasthan, the death toll in the country today climbed to 14.
