IIT Gandhinagar, India’s one of the most prestigious institutes, is all set to launch a new semester course on Ancient India. The course offers an in-depth introduction to ancient India’s Intellectual, scientific & artistic knowledge traditions, and early Indian society.

IIT Gandhinagar will conduct the fourth edition of the semester elective introduction to Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) from January to April 2020. ‘The Idea of Ancient India’ is the theme of the year 2020 that offers an in-depth introduction to ancient India’s scientific and artistic knowledge traditions, Intellectual, and early Indian society.

The course will start from January 9, 2020, and it will be taught by eight respected scholars from various parts of India and abroad, along with course coordinators Professor Michel Danino and Mana Shah from IIT Gandhinagar. It is free to join and is also open to students from other institutions in Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar.

The course on ‘The ideas of Ancient India’ will give an insider’s perspective on multiple topics like Pan-Indian traditions, foreign travellers’ views on India, Sanskrit Kavya as history, Pan-Indic concepts and practices of governance, moral instruction and ethics, India’s sacred geography, The mandala landscape, and the mandala in-built form, Pan-Indian traditions of science and technology.

Professor Srinivas Reddy from Brown University, USA and IIT Gandhinagar will be delivering the first lecture of the course. He is an eminent scholar Tamil, classical Telugu, Sanskrit and Indian music. The professor will talk about political theory, Pan-Indic concepts, and practices to governance, moral instruction, and ethics.
