The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has decided to postpone the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2020) due to COVID-19 pandemic. The exam was scheduled to be held on August 22, in a social-distanced online mode at the test centres. Moreover, the consortium has increased the number of test centres to conduct the exam in a safe environment. The exam is being postponed for the fourth time now owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
The postponement of CLAT 2020 scheduled to be held on August 22 was decided by the exam convenor, Prof Balraj Chouhan, Vice-Chancellor of Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur along with the participating NLUs in a video-conferencing meeting today.
Earlier, a plea was filed by Advocate Mitul Jain for conducting of CLAT 2020 in an online mode stating, "there should not be any specific test centres for CLAT and, the online proctored mode will be a limitation for those candidates who do not have a computer system to take the exam." However, the Supreme Court has rejected the plea as there were few days left for the exam. Moreover, there was no solid ground against 'Social-Distance Computer-Based' CLAT 2020.
In addition, Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the consortium and the centre to file replies for conducting of CLAT 2020 at the test centres, which require the physical presence of the candidates. The notice was issued in response to a plea filed by a candidate stating the situation of COVID-19 and, mode of CLAT 2020 examination.
The consortium will be sharing the revised schedule for CLAT 2020 later after considering the prevalent situation of COVID-19.
