CAT 2020 Topper Interview: Know How Ekansh Agarwal Scored 99.98 Percentile

Q: What was your weak area(s) and what did you do to improve the same?

A: The weakest area was VARC. I tried reading a lot as many people advised me that reading would help but it did not help me much. But later when I joined coaching, I found that my scores have improved.

Q: How did you deal with the stress of CAT prep and exam?

A: I was a part of a study group. Everyone in the group was scoring well in the mock tests. So because of that, there was not much stress or anxiety. The stress does creep in on the exam day but we were able to manage it well when we studied together.

Q: Is it important to join a coaching institute for CAT preparation?

A: I think attempting mock tests is more important. If a student is preparing seriously, then he/she should buy a test series. But if they think they need assistance in a particular section or sections, then they may opt for coaching but it is not necessary to join a coaching institute.

Q: Which IIMs or MBA institutes that you are targeting?

A: I am targeting IIM Ahmedabad. But if not that, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta will be my next choice.  

Q: Any specific strategy for WAT-PI?

A: I have started my preparations already for WAT and PI. I also have plans for joining a coaching institute to help me with the preparations.

Q: What are your plans after completing MBA?

A: I might go for a job in Consulting but I haven’t really thought about it much right now.

Q: Any tips for the future CAT aspirants?

A: I would say that mock tests are the most important part of CAT preparation. Attempt as many mock tests as possible. 40-50 mock tests are good enough. Focus on the areas you are weak at and accordingly attempt the mock tests. Another piece of advice would be, if you think that you are weak in any section, then try maximizing the other two whilst working on the first.
