IIM Visakhapatnam Admission 2018-2020: PI to take place in May third week

IIM Visakhapatnam has announced its 2018-2020 admission sechedule. Candidates who meet the criteria for the first round, can send their 'Reconfirmation of Interest' by April 23, 2018.

 The overall percentile cutoff has been fixed at 90. However the final admission will be based on multiple factors, like academic performance, WAT/PI scores, work experience and diversity.

The admission process will be in three phases. In the first phase, the candidates will be shortlisted for WAT/PI round on the basis of their overall as well as section-wise CAT 2017 scores. In the second phase, WAT/PI round will be conducted and in the final phase the admission committee will select the candidates for admission based on their composite scores.

The first phase process will be completed by April and the selected candidates will be informed via email by the third week of the same month. The selected candidates will have to reconfirm their participation within a stipulated time and only those who have reconfirmed so, will be invited for the next rounds.

The weighted aggregate of the following six components will be used to prepare a pre-PI rank list based on which a second short list of candidates is prepared WAT/PI round.

  • Work experience or professional course
  • CAT 2017 score
  • Class 10 score
  • Class 12 score
  • Graduation score
  • Gender diversity


Candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weight under professional course. No other professional course is eligible. The professional course score is also standardized for all Qualified Confirmed Candidates.

In phase two, all the shortlisted candidates will have to submit a detailed application, including a statement of purpose, academic documents and certificates, copies of work experience certificates (if applicable), certificate of disability (if applicable), scheduled caste / scheduled tribe / other backward class – non-creamy layer certificate (if applicable).

Final admission will be based on the candidate’s performance vis-à-vis the composite score.

Hopeful candidates must know that those who are shortlisted and interviewed by any one or more of the IIMs at Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow (only for their PGP/PGPM programs), will not be required to appear for the personal interview of IIM Visakhapatnam. Their scores earned in the interview at older IIMs will be taken into consideration at the time of computation of the composite score.

IIM Vishakhapatnam CAT Cutoff 2024 will be released soon after the declaration of the CAT 2024 result. For the past 3 years, the CAT percentile cutoff has remained 92. Looking at the past years' trend, there is a high probability of the CAT percentile cutoff to fall between 92-95.
