Eight-week summer internship programme helps us to apply the concepts in the practical world, says Heena

I’m a graduate in Economics and Mathematics from Delhi University and always had an inclination towards management and leadership. I was interested in Human Resources since my three-year volunteer ship with AIESEC. So, when I graduated and completed my volunteer ship, I started preparing for the management entrances and cleared the rigorous selection process of SIBM Hyderabad.

SIBM-H started with the motto of Shraddhavan Labhate Gyanam, which means that the earnest aspirant gains supreme wisdom and with the vision of nurturing, coaching, and counselling of future business leaders. The admission process is divided into two parts- first is the national aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis International University which is called the Symbiosis National Aptitude Online Test (SNAP), whereas the second part consists of a three-round selection process amongst the ones who are shortlisted from the national aptitude test and is called GEPIWAT. The uniqueness of the process is that where the majority of the B- school selection process consists of a group discussion, SIBM-H has designed group exercises to test the communication, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills of the aspirant. Lastly, the selection process is concluded with a personal interview and written ability test. The beauty of the process of that the corporate partners also participate in the selection process while interviewing candidates.

The specialisations offered are Human Resource, Marketing, Operations, and Finance. The curriculum is divided into four parts (known as four semesters) and the student is required to choose a specific specialisation after the completion of the first semester. Whereas, in the third semester, the students are given an option to choose two courses outside their specialisation to gain more knowledge into the other fields. The curriculum follows a Harvard Case Study method and inculcates the value of experiential learning. A heavy focus on research has been made where students are required to get at least one research paper published in a scopus listed journal. Whereas, in terms of the evaluation, the students are continuously evaluated with quizzes, case study discussions, presentations, assignments and projects along with semester-end exams. Various guest lectures by corporates are also organized by the college to give us practical knowledge of what happens in the corporate world. Also, an eight-week summer internship program helps us to apply the concepts in the practical world.

SIBM-H has a sprawling 40-acre green campus with world-class infrastructure with classrooms, accommodation, auditorium, library, Bloomberg finance lab, healthcare, recreational facilities, cafeteria, computer lab and bank. The library has a rich collection of Books, Magazines, Journals, Multimedia Material for Management students, PhD scholars along with faculty members catering to the needs of research and learning.

Mentorship Programme is one of the initiatives taken by SIBM-H, where students are given an opportunity to be mentored by corporates in various industries who have experience of over ten years. This gives students an opportunity to understand what goes in the corporate world, relate to what they have been learning in classes and get a one-to-one mentorship from the industry professional.

SIBM-H is a completely student-driven campus run by the student council and the student body. There are nineteen various clubs and committees from the vertical of academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular which helps in the personality development of the students along with contributing to the college as per their interest. The leadership positions offered to the students in the second year for their respective clubs and committees along with being a part of the student council give them an opportunity to learn how to lead teams. Firande and Elysium are two flagship events of SIBM-H which includes intercollege competitions in the fields of management, academics, cultural, sports and wellness.

I am extremely grateful to the college to give me a plethora of opportunities to grow and be a better version of myself. It truly stands by its mission and vision of promoting international understanding through quality education and inculcating the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means that the world is one family.
