Mystory@Monalisa Banerjee: How I chose my course and college
I was very confident about not taking up Science as my specialization in class 11, and at the same time I didn’t even find humanities interesting. So I was left with Commerce but after selecting the stream, I started liking the subjects taught in Commerce. I then opted for BCom and graduated in Accountancy and Finance Honors. Though I was never a topper in college, I still maintained a good percentage in my graduation. I didn’t want to go for Govt. exams, neither did I want to do Chartered Accountancy. I wanted to go for MBA from the very beginning. Finally I appeared for some entrance exams like CAT, MAT and once I obtained a decent percentile, I started getting calls from several business schools. As I always wanted to stay in Kolkata near my parents, I was willing to get admission in a B-School in Kolkata only. I got a call from Unitedworld School of Business and later I got to know that my schoolmates too were already studying here. I contacted my friends and gathered all the required details about this college. I finally made the decision to join UWSB, one of the prestigious business schools in.
How I cracked college admission
After I completed my graduation in 2015 I did a computer course from Brainware. After that I wanted to go for MBA so I joined IMS learning sources to crack management entrance exams like CAT and MAT. I started the preparations, but since I was very sure that would not be leaving Kolkata, I was aiming for the B-schools in Kolkata only. I was never good in Quant so I focused mainly on English and other sections so that I could score good marks in the same. Then in November and December 2015, I appeared for CAT and MAT respectively. I obtained a decent percentile and received calls from various colleges. I was confused between Globsyn Business School, Praxis Business School and Unitedworld School of Business. I didn’t choose Globsyn Business School because it was too far from my home. Furthermore, staying in the hostel is compulsory at Praxis Business School. Finally, I thought I would choose UWSB, if I happen to clear the Group Discussion and Personal Interview conducted by the institute.
I started preparing for the GD and PI rounds. There were 8 participants in my GD round. I was a bit nervous during the GD round, but I still managed to do a good job. Our dean, Dr. Amitabh Ghosh took my interview and though I was asked ample of questions, I managed to create an impression on him, and this made a part of the UWSB family.
My college life
My college has made me better person altogether. I discovered many such skills that were hidden inside me. We have classes from Monday to Friday and I make it a point to go to college every single day, not because we have a strict attendance issue, but because of the fact that I love going to college. I have made lots of friends in this college and we have a gala time chatting and having fun in between classes.
Talking about our classes we have 4-5 classes in a day of 1.5 hours each. We have an excellent faculty and they all are highly qualified having vast knowledge in the subjects they teach. We also have mentors for a group of students. I really love the Economics classes of Sandeep Sir, Marketing classes of Mahua Ma’am and Kaveri Ma’am, HR classes of Meenakshi Ma’am. They are my personal favorites. I really love to attend Shafi Sir’s lectures because one can actually learn a lot from that man. He is a rare combination of wide knowledge in diversified fields. I have been a part of events such as debates, storytelling and group discussions, chess competition, Independence Day drama, freshers’ party, singing, and I have also organized some events. My college has brought out the fear of public speaking which I used to have previously. The presentations which we have to display in front of the whole class really helps us a lot, not only to gain knowledge but also to shed our fear of facing the audience. We have games room where we sometimes play table tennis or pool. A football tournament was organized by our seniors. Here the bonding between the seniors and juniors is commendable. Throughout the day we attend classes and have lots of fun during the breaks. The faculty is always there to help you with any kind of problem you face in studies and they also provide guidance to how you should plan your future. They are an excellent bunch of mentors and counsellors. I am proud to be a part of this institution.
About the college:
I am a BCom graduate, currently pursuing MBA. My areas of interest are painting, driving, exercising, meeting and interacting people, travelling, net surfing, and listening to music. I am sincere, punctual, co-operative, versatile, and easily adapt to changing work environment. I have worked in Sony India Pvt. Ltd. as a service brand ambassador, handled the retail environment for Perfetti Van Melle, and Digital Marketing at Camp K12.
