Mystory@Sagnik Kusari: How I chose my course and college

Mystory@Sagnik Kusari

I took up Commerce in Class XI-XII because from an early age I was very clear about what I want to become in future. I wanted to explore the field of marketing because I am fond of speaking. I took this decision as I idolise my brother who is working in a multi-national company in Delhi as the Marketing Head of the Company.

I preferred RIIM above all the other colleges because RIIM provides the best of education at a reasonable cost. RIIM provides experienced faculty and students are made industry-ready in all aspects and this is why I chose RIIM over other colleges.

And I think my decision of selecting this college is perfect and I am happy to be the part of this college. Another reason why I chose this college is due to its placement. Many good companies come for recruitment in the third semester. And in the second semester a lot of companies come for the SIP (summer internship programme). Apart from this, some companies also offer stipend for SIP. But I think that getting stipend is not that important right now. It is more important to get experience.

How I cracked college admission

A telephonic interview was conducted where many questions were asked. I prepared a lot for the interview due to which I was able to crack the interview. As per me, the most important thing while giving the interview is that you should be confident and make sure that your answers are up to the mark.

To score well in MAT, I Joined TIME and private tuition as well.

I took part in the admission process of many colleges. Few of them are listed here - Balaji Institute for Management, Vidyapith, Sinhgad etc, but I found RIIM to be the best for me.

I also tries to visit colleges/universities in other cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta stc. But Pune University is considered to be the best in India and that is why I selected it and zeroed in on the MBA course.

If I compared RIIM with other colleges in term of fees and different curriculum activities then RIIM is providing more than other colleges and that too in less fees and it is also providing average 3 to 4 lakh as placement package.

When I came to Pune to visit different colleges, I found that most colleges have similar fees and average package for jobs. Only a few colleges had less fee but then they do not provide all the facilities that we want from a college. In most colleges the fee structure was such that we had to pay anywhere between Rs 3 lakh to 5 lakh and the placement packages that most students got were also around Rs 3 to 5 lakh of package.

So, I select RIIM because its fee was less plus it had good and experienced faculty as well as good opportunities and different activities were I could develop my personality and also improve my communication skills.

What I gained from my college experience

To be completely honest, it is a little difficult to maintain a balance between education and work. But I managed my time in such a way that there was enough time for both studies and work. I divided the whole day into various activities and completed each task in the specified time limit.

I learnt time management from my college, how to utilise time in a proper way.

RIIM has been a blessing for me. We had the best of faculty who ensured that all the subjects were taught well to us. Our classes were of 10 hours each day with necessary breaks at the end of each class.

The Faculty is well-trained and experienced and they are from well-known colleges like MIT, Symbiosis, Balaji, DY Patil etc. The rest of the members of RIIM college like the admin staff are good and helpful.

RIIM encourages us to participate in a number of events. Recently, our college students participated in Pune International Marathon which was sponsored by our college.  We have also visited a number of industries which has enhanced our practical knowledge. Recently, six of us were taken to IIM-C to present a business idea. It was a wonderful platform for us to showcase our talent.

In our college there are many different activities which helps to develop skills of students. Some of the activities are done in a group and others at individual level. This is done so that each and every student can improve his/her presentation skills as well as communication skills. All students are given equal chance to speak in front of others so that their confidence level also increases.

In our college attendance is very important and we are advised to act as managers from college itself. And the education imparted ay my college will always be beneficial in my life.

Tips for successful time management:

  • Make a list of things to do in a day
  • Spend more time on important things like reading newspaper, English author books etc
  • Take breaks after completion of each activity
  • Set specific time limit for each activity.
