Why I opted for MBA after job: V. Aditya Vikram Reddy
Till tenth grade, I studied in Bhashyam Public School where the focus was only on studies – this only helped me in scoring marks, and my overall development went for a toss. I wanted to break my shell and push my limits but was unable to do so, since I was nothing else other than a geek. I got to know about colleges that offered sports and conducted numerous extracurricular activities and I had the urge to join any such college. My parents were not in favour of me joining another college but I took my own decision and joined Bhavan’s Sri AuroBindo Junior College.
Then I opted for MPC (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) in my intermediate. I actively participated in sport & extra-curricular activities and in no time there was a visible difference in my attitude and confidence. I lost stage fear, spoke English fluently, and gained a good physique. I passed the examination with flying colors and went on to join Bhavan’s Vivekananda Degree College and opted for BSc-Statistics. This is when my life took a massive turn. I noticed that I had started developing communication and leadership skills. I started playing basketball and learnt some Martial Arts.
How I cracked college admission
In my opinion, a person can achieve anything if he gives his hundred percent in achieving a particular task. Either we’re incapable of studying or we lack proper guidance or direction- that’s all. Not everyone can study and score good marks – someone might be an artist or a sportsman or a singer; we just have to accept what we are & be proud of the same.
I was working with Amazon when one of my friends encouraged me to write TSICET, a competitive exam for MBA grads at State level. I attempted the exam and I ranked 1706. This score would fetch me a seat in a good MBA college, but one of my seniors suggested me to opt for PGDM. I began hunting for colleges in the city offering PGDM, and through my neighbor’s help got to know about Siva Sivani Institute of Management. The college offered me a scholarship Rs 50, 000 and I joined the college.
What I gained from my college experience
Apart from attending classes, I like to spend my time learning new things, giving presentations or public speeches like JAM, case studies etc. In my free time, I write Rap lyrics and compose beats which I’m currently learning to compile into a song.
I like attending Marketing, Finance and Managerial Communication classes. Moreover, I like to attend internships the college provides to get interview experience and industry exposure. Also, I like to attend workshops conducted by the college. I meet lecturers who act as my mentors and guide me in difficult situations. I involve with my seniors and help them in organising events, anchoring, setting up quizzes etc.
When I first arrived at the college I did not know what interested me. I thought of only getting a PGDM degree and becoming a manager. But when I started attending college, my skills and strengths were finessed to an unimaginable level. Initially, I wanted to become a Manager but the goal changed to becoming an Entrepreneur.
My interest lies in Marketing and stock markets and securities also interests me also so I opted for Finance and since I’m already good with numbers, it is a cherry on the cake. SSIM has helped me emerge as a leader and has built my character in a new perspective.
