Students’ Speak: Tips & tricks to crack on-campus placement interviews

Placement is one of the most crucial and life-changing phases of college life. This is one of the first steps toward building a successful career. So, here are some tips and tricks that will ensure you crack on-campus placement interviews like a pro.

It is all about keeping yourself above others. The first step towards achieving this by keeping your resume updated. The second step is to gather information about the company, for which you are appearing for the interview. Third, do a detailed analysis of the position that you are applying.

  • A well-written resume: Prepare your resume well. Write about your work experience so far and elaborate on your roles and responsibilities. Won an accolade at work? Do write about your achievements, too. What you must avoid in the resume are the unnecessary details. Be brief of the tasks performed instead of elaborate the work. You could also modify your resume for each company you appear for based on their job role requirements.
  • Know about the company: Gather substantial information about the company before the pre-placement talks begin. This will allow you to ask related questions and clear your doubts, in any, before the complete process begins.
  • Group discussion is key: Most of the placement drives begin with Group Discussion (GD) round followed by Personal Interview (PI). During GD, it is suggested that you refrain from arguments. During the GD process if you have no idea about the topic given, don’t panic. Instead, keep calm and listen to other participants, write down the points being raised by other members and based on the discussion make your own point and try to conclude with valid points raised by the members.
  • Personal Interview is the last lap: During the PI process, do refrain yourself from giving the answers that you don’t know answers to. Guesswork or a manipulated answer may have a negative impact in the mind of the interviewer, lowering your chances of selection. Once the interview is over, always ask for the feedback of your performance and only when the HR gives you a chance to ask as it will help you in equipping better.
