Gujarat opposes draft PG admission regulations
After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister wrote to the centre showing his unacceptance of the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations 2021, now the medical education fraternity in Gujarat also opposed the same.
As per the medical experts in Gujarat, if the proposal comes in its current form, it will undermine the power of the state and would also result in the reduction of PG seats for Gujarat students.
Why the states are opposing the draft?
Currently, the state-appointed admission committees do the counselling for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats. However, a provision in the new draft PG regulations suggests centralising and designating the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as the designated authority for counselling for state quota seats.
The draft also talks about introducing common counselling for admission to all Postgraduate Broad-Specialty courses (Diploma/ MD/ MS) based on the scores of National Exit Test (NeXT) and to all Postgraduate Super-Specialty courses (DM/MCh) based on the score of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
National Medical Council (NMC) has recently proposed the draft of Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations 2021.
