NEET-UG 2021 registration reaches record numbers
Students preference for Indian languages in NEET-UG goes up
The number of NEET-UG aspirants appearing in Indian languages increased significantly in the last five years. In 2017, it was 1.1 lakh and in 2021, it reached 3.4 lakh. The exam is conducted in 13 languages, including 12 Indian languages.
The number of students who opted for the Hindi language for NEET-UG has more than doubled in the five years. In 2017, it was 1.2 lakh and in 2021, it reached 2.3 lakh. Other than Hindi, other languages also witnessed a gradual increase. After Hindi, the Gujarati language witnessed the highest number with approximately 50, 000 aspirants and next in the series are Bengali and Tamil with 35,000 and 20,000 candidates respectively.

NEET-UG is the national level qualifying exam for admission to various medical courses including, the bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS), BSc(H) Nursing courses, bachelor of dental surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Ayurveda, medicine and surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Unani medicine and surgery (BUMS), Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS), and bachelor of homoeopathic medicine and surgery (BHMS).
Despite the growing demand of the students to further postpone NEET-UG, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the exam on September 12, 2021.
