NEET 2021 is postponed from August 1 to September 12. The speculations on the postponement of the exam, which was going on for a long time has finally been confirmed with the official announcement of the NEET 2021 exam date on July 12. Some candidates are demanding postponing NEET 2021 to October.

The long-drawn speculation on the NEET 2021 exam being postponed to September has finally been concluded on July 12.  The NEET 2021 application process which had started on July 13 has ended on August 6. The NEET 2021 application correction window has opened on August 11 and is scheduled to end on August 14 (2 pm). Although NEET 2021 aspirants were relieved with the announcement after a long delay, some of the candidates are still demanding the postponement of the NEET 2021 to October.

Ever since the announcement of the NEET 2021 exam date in March, there was no further update on the application process or other important dates till July 12. With the postponement of other national level entrance exams like JEE Main, NEET PG, INI CET, etc. due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, there were speculations on the postponement of the NEET 2021 exam to September. NTA had assessed the COVID-19 situation along with the stakeholders from the Ministry of Education and Health. The NEET 2021 exam date was finalised after consultation with the Education Minister.

Probable Reasons of NEET 2021 being postponed

Although the COVID cases across the country have reduced a bit as compared to the past couple of months, there is a prediction about an impending third wave. The exam authorities must consider each and every aspect before conducting NEET to not compromise candidates' health in any manner. To make such preparations, it is imperative to say that a major amount of time is required. This is one of the reasons which led to the chances of NEET 2021 getting postponed.

Although the NEET 2021 syllabus has remained the same as last year, the NEET 2021 exam pattern has undergone changes in terms of the question paper structure, which has left a number of aspirants confused. According to them, two months is not enough to prepare for the new exam pattern and NTA should give them more time for preparation.

The states of Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are hit by severe floods. It is a difficult situation for candidates in these states to prepare for the exam or make other logistic arrangements. They are requesting NTA to defer the exam till October.

The date of NEET 2021 is clashing with a number of other national-level entrance exams and CBSE private exams. Hence, candidates have extended the request to NTA for considering a deferment in the NEET 2021 exam date, preferably in October.

NEET 2021 exam postponement: Students’ reactions

With the announcement of the exam date on July 12, the majority of the NEET  2021 aspirants have expressed their relief and satisfaction. However, there are still a number of candidates who are still demanding postponement of NEET 2021 till October. They are trending #PostponeNEETUGtoOctober and #PostponeNEETUG on Twitter and other social media platforms requesting the government to postpone the NEET 2021 exam.

A number of reasons have been listed by students

At the same time, NEET aspirants are nervous about the impending COVID-19 third wave .

Those who have not completed the preparation, or were waiting for the dates to be announced are now focussing completely on NEET 2021 preparation. There are some other entrance exams scheduled in September, which has made the aspirants requesting for postponing NEET 2021 to  October.

So far, NTA has ruled out the possibility of further postponing NEET 2021 since the exam is already delayed and the application process has been concluded.
NEET 2021 will be conducted in 202 cities across India and two international cities. Last year, the exam was conducted in 155 cities. The number of NEET 2021 exam centres will also be increased to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols. A staggered entry and exit process will also be implemented at the centre. Candidates will be provided masks at the exam centre and the seating arrangement will be made keeping in mind the social distancing protocols.
