Rajya Sabha passes Indian System for Medicine; Homeopathy bills
Rajya Sabha has passed two medicine bills -- National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Bill 2019 and the National Commission for Homoeopathy Medicine Bill 2019-- in order to uplift the traditional medical practices in the country.
In order to enhance the Indian medicine and homeopathy sector, the Rajya Sabha has passed two bills – National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Bill 2019 and National Commission for Homoeopathy Medicine Bill 2019—by voice vote.
The Union Cabinet had approved the changes that were proposed in the Homeopathy Bill on January 29 for amending the Homeopathy Central Council (HCC) Act, 1973.
While speaking about the bills, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy, Shripad Yesso Naik said that with both of these bills our sole aim is to provide quality and affordable education to students in the medical stream. This will ensure that we will have the best in class medical professionals across the country in this sector too.
He also informed the House that the commission will also make sure to adopt the latest research work done by such medical professionals. He said it is indeed a matter of pride that for such research work many countries are looking forward to work with India.
It is after 50 years, that a new ministry has been formed in order to take care of our traditional medical system. The impact of this is that today many countries are coming forward to work with us in the field of Ayurveda. We have been signed about 14 agreements with 10 foreign universities and we are looking forward to more such engagements, he informed the House.
Naik had introduced Homeopathy Bill in Lok Sabha in June 2019, which was later replaced as the Homeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance in 2019, which was promulgated on March 2, 2019.
