Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024 Approved for NEP 2020 Implementation, Signaling Major Reforms in Higher Education. Deferred launch of the PhD in Hindu Studies to the 2025-26.

The University of Delhi's Academic Council has approved implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for postgraduate programs. The council approved the “Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024” (PGCF 2024), which will guide NEP-compliant postgraduate courses starting in the upcoming academic sessions. This decision underscores the university’s commitment to aligning with national educational reforms and enhancing academic standards.

During the meeting decision was also taken, requiring all colleges and institutes to resolve pending faculty promotion cases by February 28, 2025. Institutions that fail to meet this deadline must seek explicit approval from the Vice Chancellor to extend it. This move aims to ensure fairness and timely recognition of faculty contributions across the university.

The DU Academic Council also took steps to promote inclusivity and equity in education by reserving one additional seat in each postgraduate program for single girl students under a supernumerary quota. This decision reflects DU’s broader commitment to supporting underrepresented groups and fostering gender equity.

Further academic developments include the approval to expand seats in the DM (Neuroanaesthesia) program at G.B. Pant Institute of PG Education & Research from two to four annually, starting in 2025-26, and the introduction of a B.Sc. (Medical Technology) Radiology course at Lady Hardinge Medical College with 10 seats. Both initiatives are contingent on regulatory and funding agency approvals, highlighting DU’s focus on expanding specialized education in healthcare.

Additionally, the council approved deferring the launch of the PhD program in Hindu Studies to the 2025-26 academic session as recommended by the Governing Body of the Centre for Hindu Studies.

These deliberations and decisions highlight the university’s efforts to improve academic infrastructure, prioritize inclusivity, and ensure administrative efficiency while adhering to national policies like NEP 2020.
