Hybrid classes amid COVID-19 surge

Considering the increase in the number of novel coronavirus cases, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow hybrid classes in schools as schoolchildren continue to remain unvaccinated against COVID-19.

Stating that COVID-19 vaccines such as Covaxin and Covishield are not available in the required numbers and with most children below 18 years continue to remain unprotected, the situation is not safe for them as many positive cases are being reported in the below 18 years of age category.

Various groups of parents are also demanding online classes in schools if the district COVID-19 positivity rate crosses 5 per cent so that learning is not disrupted for impacted students, according to a new survey.
