The institute decides to conduct all classes online. Staff, faculty members to continue working from home till further instructions.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has decided to conduct all classes online after 18 faculty members, staff and students tested positive for COVID-19. The IIT Jammu said it has been conducting periodic COVID-19 testing amid a spike in cases.

Out of RT-PCR tests conducted on 300 people last week, 18 people were found infected with the virus. However, everyone is under quarantine as per protocol and reports of mild to no symptoms while being constantly monitored and supported by the medical unit. The campus is being sanitised,” the IIT Jammu said in a statement.

It said most of the students had left the campus for semester break in December. “IIT Jammu will conduct all classes online and the staff and the faculty members will continue to work from home until further instructions. We are comforted to report that 100 per cent of our community is vaccinated to fight the virus,” it said.

Meanwhile, 119 students and staff have tested positive for COVID at IIT Hyderabad. While IIT Madras reported 58 cases between January 5 and 9, 2022, 15 people have been found infected at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur. NIT Rourkela has ordered closure of the institute amid the rising COVID-19 cases. The infected include 87 students and employees and their family members.
