Under this recruitment plan, the government will intake 1,300 teachers for Classes I to V, and approximately 2,000 teachers will be recruited in for Classes VI to VIII.

The government of Gujarat is mulling to commence the process of recruiting nearly 3,300 teachers or 'vidya sahayaks' for state-run primary schools. Last year in March, when the state education ministry was under Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, a formal announcement for the recruitment of vidya sahayaks or primary school teachers was made.

The things did not move ahead swiftly as a demand to increase the reservation quota for persons with disabilities from the present 3 per cent to 4 per cent was made by the Centre from the state government. While addressing the media in Gandhinagar, State Education Minister, Jitu Vaghani said, “This matter got delayed because of some administrative processes. After the Centre's directive to increase the quota, the Social Justice and Empowerment Department and my department recently finished all formalities, and now we will soon start the process to recruit nearly 3,300 primary school teachers.”

Under this recruitment plan, the government will intake 1,300 teachers for Classes I to V, and approximately 2,000 teachers will be recruited in for Classes VI to VIII, the minister told. Vaghani further informed that candidates who have cleared eligibility test in the past will be considered for recruitment as an extension has already been given in this regard.

The announcement to recruit more than 3,000 teachers came as a relief for thousands of youths who have been eagerly waiting for the recruitment for some time now. In the last one year, various representations have also been made by various candidates to the government in this regard.
