33 more found infected with COVID at NIT Hamirpur

The total number of affected cases at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur has now increased to 173. 

Thirty-three more students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of affected cases in the institute to 173. 

The institute was declared a ‘mini containment zone’ on January 7 to contain the spread of the virus. A district health official said it has been made mandatory for people visiting hospitals in Hamirpur to get COVID test done. Meanwhile, three students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Bani have also tested positive for COVID-19 in Hamirpur. 

With this, the number of active cases in the district ha increased to 305. The number of total confirmed cases in the district has risen to 18,393 as against 17,799 recoveries, the official added. 

Hamirpur Medical College Hospital Medical Superintendent Ramesh Chauhan said the new order has led to further detection of more Covid-infected people during the past two days and it would help the department to contain the virus spreading in the community. 

Meanwhile, 67 students at the Madras Institute of Technology, one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University, in Chromepet, Chennai, have tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. Most of the students are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.  

More than 50 persons, including students and a faculty member, have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati since December 31, 2021. An official of the institute said according to a government order, no student will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until further notice. IIT Kharagpur has also reported 60 COVID cases. Out of them, 40 are students and researchers.
