Admissions open for BE/BTech honours programme at VTU

Students can register for BE/BTech honours degree programme at fifth semester by paying a non-refundable fee of INR 1,000.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has invited applications for registration to BE/BTech honours degree programmes from eligible candidates for the 2021-22 academic year. 

Eligibility criteria for VTU BE/BTech honours

Students can register for BE/BTech honours degree programme at fifth semester by paying a non-refundable fee of INR 1,000. 

  • The student should have obtained a grade ≥ D in all courses in the first attempt in all semesters, including fourth semester. 
  • The student should have obtained a CGPA ≥ 8.5 at the end of fourth semester. 
  • The diploma lateral entry students should have completed additional mathematics I and II during third and fourth semester in first attempt only. 
  • The BSc lateral entry students should have completed engineering graphics and elements of civil engineering of first year engineering programme by the end of fourth semester in first attempt only. 

As per a circular released by the university, the students have to submit the application form to the principal of the respective college. This year, registration is permitted only to students with USN XXX18XXXXX (regular), USN XXX19XX4XX (diploma lateral entry) and XXX19XX6XX (BSc lateral entry). There shall be no limit on the intake for registration to BE/BTech honours programmes. 

VTU is also introducing open-book exams for some of the engineering courses from the current academic year. The system will be introduced in streams such as civil, mechanical, electrical and architecture. According to university authorities, an official communication will be issued once the board of studies submits its recommendations. Currently, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) follow the open book exam system. This is the first time in Karnataka that a state-run university is introducing it.
