Agnipath Protest: Haryana orders Coaching Institutes to close down

The Defense Ministry launched the 'Agnipath' or 'Agneeveer' scheme for recruiting soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air force, who would be hired for a term of four years on contract.

Haryana government has ordered coaching institutes located in Mahendragarh and Jhajjar to close down to control protests against the Agnipath scheme. Protests are happening across the country against the Ministry of Defense's new soldier recruitment scheme.

In an order issued on June 20, the district magistrates of Mahendragarh and Jhajjar have directed all the private institutions, academies, and coaching centres of the district to remain their institutions closed till further orders to avert any mishap.

The Defense Ministry launched the 'Agnipath' or 'Agneeveer' scheme for recruiting soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air force, who would be hired for a term of four years on contract.

The order to close down coaching centres read: “Coaching centres are being run to get prepare the youth for the examinations/training of various Government jobs with a result to which, a large number of students/applicants/candidates come to the said institutes on daily basis. And whereas, there is apprehension that the youth enrolled in these institutions may involve in the protest against the Agnipath scheme and can cause a breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquillity besides posing grave danger to human life as well as safety and damage to public property.”

“It is essential to prevent all such activities with the directions to all the coordinators of aforesaid Private Institutions/Academies/Coaching centres of the district to remain their institutions closed till further orders to avert any mishap,” reads the order.

The district administration has also warned institutions of action for not following the order. The order states: “Any violation of these orders shall be dealt with strictly as per Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The order will remain in force till further orders.”
