AIIMS Delhi nominates five members body for taking policy-level decisions

Finally, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has nominated five members body for taking policy-level decisions, the members also include the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi's president position was vacant for nearly nine months. Finally, the institute has nominated the five members body for taking policy-level decisions including the task of selecting a president. These members also include Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

The other four nominated members are Dr Prem Nair, Medical Director at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, Dr Kameshwar Prasad, Director at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, Prof. Vijay Kumar Shukla, Rector and Vice-Chancellor at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Dr Pranjal Modi, Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University of Transplantation Sciences in Ahmedabad, as reported by Indian Express.

Mansukh Mandaviya was nominated to be President of AIIMS Delhi

As per the Gazette Notification issued on March 9, Mandaviya has been nominated as a member under subsection 4(e) of the AIIMS Act which states five persons of whom one should be a non­medical scientist representing the Indian Science Congress Association, to be nominated by the Central Government. 

The Gazette of India's notification says, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 7 of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Act, 1956 (25 of 1956) the Central Government hereby nominates Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, a Member of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi to be the President of the said institute."

Meanwhile, the institute is in the process of selecting a new director and many prominent experts from the medical field are in the race including Dr Balram Bhargava, Indian Council of Medical Research Director.
