AIIMS Delhi to still finalise new Director's name
After extending the tenure of the current AIIMS New Delhi Director Randeep Guleria by three months on March 23, the selection committee is still to finalise a new Director.
The tenure of the current AIIMS New Delhi Director Randeep Guleria is coming to end on June 23 and the new Director is still not finalised. Guleria already got his tenure extended in March but the selection committee is yet to appoint the new Director.
As per the Indian Express report, in March, three doctors' names were shortlisted for the Director's post and were sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval which was then forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Till now, there has been no update from Prime Minister’s Office on these names. These names were Dr Nikhil Tandon, head of the department of endocrinology, Dr Rajesh Malhotra, chief of AIIMS Trauma Centre and the head of the department of orthopaedics, and Dr Pramod Garg, professor in the gastroenterology department.
Dean (Academic) AIIMS Delhi to retire soon
Reportedly, Neena Khanna, the Dean (Academic) AIIMS is also set to retire on June 30 and there is no replacement for her as of now.
As per the AIIMS officials, Guleria recommended Dr Rama Chowdhary, Department of Microbiology, as the name for the post even when she is not the senior candidate. “Ideally, the names of Dr Subrato Sinha, Professor and Head of the department of the Biochemistry or Dr KK Verma, head of the Venereology department should have been sent.”
“Why is the acting director taking important decisions such as appointment of the faculty? The process of short listing and screening of candidates has already started without the appointment for the director being finalised. As per to rules, the outgoing director has no right to take major decisions,” added the officials.
