AIIMS Guwahati construction got delayed due to pandemic, says director Gitanjali Batmanaban

AIIMS Guwahati Founder Director Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane told shiksha.com that the concerned officials are working towards completing the construction work within six months after it got delayed due to Covid-19.

After the Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, has told the officials to complete the AIIMS Guwahati construction work in the next six months, the Founder Director of the AIIMS (All India Institute Of Medical Science) Guwahati Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane said to shiksha.com that the delay was only due to the pandemic and now the officials are trying to address this issues as soon as possible.

"There is the delay of six months in construction due to Covid, as the workers went away, so we couldn't complete the work on time. How can we expect everything to be on time when the pandemic has taken such a heavy toll and this has also impacted the workers. The officials are quickly trying to address the issue as soon as possible," said Gitanjali Batmanabane.

On Sunday, Mandaviya along with Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and officials from other departments visited the construction site of AIIMS Guwahati to inspect the ongoing work.

As per reports, the Union Minister was not satisfied with the delay in the construction process and he has told the two construction companies involved in the construction work of the AIIMS to complete the construction in six months.

To speed up the faculty hiring process at AIIMS, Guwahati, Mandaviya has also requested the Assam government to nominate a state IAS officer for appointment as deputy director.
